METEOROLOGIST

KVIA is looking for a Meteorologist who is an energetic, articulate, and versatile team-player. Candidate must be able to deliver solid weathercasts as well as report, shoot, and produce digital content.

Our First Alert Weather brand is a priority at KVIA. It`s important to our viewers and we devote a lot of resources to covering weather.

You must demonstrate that you can identify the weather story of the day and convey it to viewers in a credible and animated way. We expect you to have working knowledge of weather and climate, and the capacity to get the best use out of the tools at your disposal.

Responsibilities include:

 

  1. Weather Forecasting: Utilize innovative weather data, models, and tools to prepare accurate and reliable weather forecasts for on-air presentation, including short-term and long-range forecasts, severe weather alerts, and special weather events coverage.

 

  1. On-Air Presentation: Deliver engaging and informative weather reports with a confident and personable on-air presence, making complex meteorological concepts accessible to a diverse audience. Effectively use graphics, maps, and visual aids to enhance weather presentations.

 

  1. Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the station's management and news producers to develop strategic plans for weather coverage, ensuring a strong focus on accuracy, relevance, and viewer engagement. Contribute to the station's long-term goals and initiatives.

 

  1. Weather Technology and Equipment: Stay up to date with the latest advancements in meteorological technology, tools, and equipment. Oversee the implementation and maintenance of weather-related software and hardware for broadcasting purposes.

 

  1. Community Engagement: Engage with the local community through public appearances, school visits, and community events, establishing a positive and trustworthy image as the face of weather coverage.

 

  1. Weather-related Content Creation: Contribute to the station's online and social media platforms by creating engaging weather-related content, articles, and videos, helping to expand the station's digital presence.

 

  1. Emergency Weather Coverage: Help lead coverage during severe weather events and breaking weather news coverage, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to keep viewers safe and informed.

 

  1. Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments, including news, traffic, and production, to integrate weather information seamlessly into the station's broadcasts and ensure a cohesive viewer experience.
