PARTS & INVENTORY CONTROL CLERK (4517)
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to order, receive, store, and distribute parts and tools needed to repair and
maintain County-owned vehicles and equipment.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude
them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties
may be required and assigned.
Processes requests for parts, supplies, tools and equipment: discusses product or service requirements, including
make and model of vehicles, etc. with requesting mechanic; identifies items in inventory and items needing to be
ordered; researches supply sources; secures price quotes; places orders with vendors; and maintains vendor list.
Receives delivery of orders for a variety of parts, supplies, tools, and equipment: verifies accuracy and completeness
of incoming orders; identifies incorrect or damaged items; unpacks and stores incoming inventory; communicates
with vendors regarding status of orders, discrepancies, or problem resolution; and maintains computer files and
documentation for all incoming orders.
Distributes parts, supplies, tools, and equipment to requesting mechanic: processes work orders; identifies needed
parts and supplies; retrieves and issues parts and supplies from inventory; and maintains logs/records of all materials
checked out or issued.
Prepares and submits purchase orders: enters and processes invoices or other required documentation into
computer systems; researches and resolves payment issues; and maintains related documentation.
Maintains inventory and related records: monitors inventory levels of parts, supplies, tools and equipment; maintains
adequate levels of supplies to ensure availability for repair and maintenance projects; enters inventory received and
issued into department database; and completes inventory reports and related records.
Maintains organization and cleanliness of storage areas: performs general cleaning/housekeeping tasks associated
with maintaining warehouse and work areas.

Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated
timeframes and per established procedures: prepares, completes, receives, reviews, processes, forwards or retains,
as appropriate, various forms, reports, correspondence, purchase orders, inventory logs, invoices, packing lists, work
orders, vehicle maintenance reports, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in
preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing spreadsheet, database, Internet,
e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential
functions.
Communicates with supervisor, other County employees, vendors, and other individuals as needed to coordinate
work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Additional Functions:
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by two years of experience in vehicle repair and maintenance,
inventory management, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which
provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential
functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all County or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary
to function effectively in the position.

discretion in determining data classification, and in referencing such analysis to established standards for the purpose

the application of procedures and standards to specific situations.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control
the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information.
Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability
to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving

ADA Compliance:
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some
combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing
and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, and
visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental
conditions, such as dust, odors, fumes, hazardous materials, heights, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, or
rude/irate customers.
