Summary:
The Special Education Teachers in the district wide program for students with autism and other developmental disabilities, work collaboratively with all members of the IEP team to ensure that the students in the program progress academically, functionally, socially and behaviorally as well as design and support meaningful, successful inclusion experiences.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Masters degree in special education required.
DESE Licensure in severe special needs.
Prior experience working with students with autism and other intensive special needs who required instruction using Applied Behavioral Analysis and other evidence-based methodologies.
Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to collaborate with numerous stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications:
3-5 years experience in specialized ABA setting
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To):
Provide direct and consultation services to students who have intensive needs in the district wide ABA program.
Assist and design programs that support students with behavioral, academic and functional daily living skills.
Instruct students in functional, academic and social curriculum utilizing a variety of methods in both individual and small group settings.
Modify and accommodate curriculum to meet students' individual needs.
Design and support meaningful inclusion opportunities across the school day for all students.
Collaborate with related service personnel to create a student-centered approach for meeting therapeutic skills.
Support administrators in the hiring, training and provide appropriate professional development to the aides for the school year and extended school year.
Model instructional techniques to aides so that lessons are consistently delivered across all environments.
Respond to student crisis situations and provide necessary de-escalation interventions
Schedule and run update meetings and contribute to the development of the IEP.
Organize the extended school year programming needs for each student.
Compile and submit MCAS alternate assessment portfolios.
Evaluate students using systematic methods using formal and informal assessments, write evaluation reports and clearly present information
Consult with other district elementary schools around students referred to the ABA program as well as providing advice/ consultation to teams in effectively programming for students with intense needs.
Complete required paperwork and progress reports in a timely manner.
Consistent, reliable and punctual attendance is essential for supervision and instruction of the students
Responsible for implementing “other job-related duties” as needed

Work is performed in both office and school environments as well as in community settings
Physical Requirements:
Ability to travel between multiple school locations (must possess valid driver’s license)
Must be able to assist with student behavioral needs as necessary, to include responding to student’s physical aggression of all types
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
Ability to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds
Sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building
