Position Specific Description
Provides support to the FPL Vice President, Accounting and Controller, through reliance on underlying accounting Center of Excellence (COE), that the FPL financial statements satisfy all requirements on both a GAAP and regulatory basis. Partners with the operational and support business units to ensure that the tactical and strategic initiatives are realized through optimizing regulatory accounting and ratemaking. Serve as an expert witness in proceedings before state and federal regulators representing FPL on accounting and ratemaking matters.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the oversight of all FPL accounting in accordance with GAAP, FPSC and FERC standards and rules.
- Sign off on balance sheet, income statement and cash flow for FPL produced monthly by accounting transactional teams.
- Review/edit FPL’s portion of the SEC Forms 10-Q and 10-K.
- Review/edit FPL’s FERC Forms 1 and 3-Q.
- Prepare detailed financial statement analytics and present information to NextEra Energy’s Chief Financial Officer and Chief Accounting Officer.
- Provides accounting support, working directly with the COE, for commercial and financial optimization strategies related specifically to FPL. Work with technical accounting COE to appropriately document accounting conclusions.
- Serves as an expert accounting witness, including as a backup to the FPL Controller before the FERC and FPSC to advocate the Company’s accounting and ratemaking results and develops strong ongoing professional relationships with key wholesale customers rate consultants and regulatory accounting staff.
- Work directly with COEs on implementation of new accounting standards and summarize impacts on both GAAP and regulatory financial statements.
- Review any accounting policy changes proposed by the COE and summarize impact on FPL’s GAAP and regulatory financial statements
- Work with accounting COE on any system or internal controls changes that are being proposed to understand implications to FPL
- Provide accounting support to FPL’s forecasting and budgeting teams
- Serve in a lead role for any strategic commercial or regulatory initiatives related to FPL and communicate results to senior management
- Review and summarize accounting and control impacts for non-standard transactions with consultation from technical accounting COE.
- Coordinate annual audit with external accountants, working closely with accounting COE.
Key Experience Preferences:
- Experience testifying in support of financial ratemaking for state and federal regulatory bodies preferred
- Strong GAAP and FERC accounting skills
- Financial, budgeting and reporting ERP systems user experience preferred
- CPA license or equivalent required
- Public Accounting Experience
