Position Details:
Tower Technicians help in the construction, installation, and maintenance of communications towers and support structures and related telecommunications equipment. Tower Technicians work irregular hours, travel often, and work at great heights in extreme weather conditions.
Our openings are for Tiger Teams performing maintenance work in the Southeast.
Responsibilities:
Tower technicians that perform maintenance work have broad knowledge of equipment and components and can troubleshoot, repair and/or install new equipment as issues arise. Specific duties may include the following:
- Climbs and works on communications towers for the purpose of installing, replacing, and repairing antenna systems equipment.
- The basic use and care of hand tools and mechanical equipment.
- Safety Management - follow company and customer safety requirements.
- The ability to climb tall structures (100 feet or more) with 50 lb. load.
- Full understanding of a job or project Scope of Work (SOW).
- Analyzes situations accurately and adopts a proper course of action.
- Solid communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- Follow instructions accurately and complete assigned course of action.
- Maintains clean, orderly environment adhering to company policies and industry regulation/standard(s) (OSHA)(ANSI)(TIA)
- Experienced with compliant tower rigging techniques.
- Proficient with all test equipment (sweeps, PIM, fiber testing etc.)
- Performs GPS antenna alignment.
- Proficient with installation of antennas, RRH’s, ground kits, RET systems.
- Basic knowledge of microwave dish and radio installations
- Ensures jobs are completed fully, meet all company and customer quality standards and all COP requirements are followed.
- Function as a team lead and mentor to less experienced Tower Technicians.
Qualifications:
- NWSA certification required. (NGT will aid candidates in NWSA certification that meet the job requirements.)
- Proof of previous training.
- Minimum of 2 plus years’ experience.
- Ability to find Customers’ indicated faults and perform isolation and resolution. This includes but not limited to…
- Return Loss / VSWR
- Receive Signal Loss / RSSI
- Internal PIM Isolation, Trouble shoot, resolve,
- External PIM Hunting / Identification / Isolation.
- Fiber Loss: uplink/downlink Loss. Reduce Loss to market specified values.
- DC power related failures between power plant and radio. Isolation and repair of ad power connectors, terminations, components. Includes power plant, rectifiers, ray cap, etc.
- External Alarms: isolating bad wiring and or bad components. Causing external alarms.
- GPS fault, Troubleshooting GPS antenna, coax, connectors, GPS module.
- May require replacing bad antennas, radio's, LNA's, combines, triplexers, etc. On the tower.
- May require troubleshooting, repairing, replacing civil components related to powerplant, fiber connections / terminations.
- Clean Driving Record & Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation to and from work.
- Must be able to accommodate out of town travel.
- Must have experience with Anritsu Site Master, Andrew, PPC, tower mapping and antenna equipment.
- RF Awareness, replacement, and maintenance i.e., coax, jumpers, TMA’s, connectors, and weather proofing.
- Highly organized and able to effectively provide verbally and written reports back to the Project Manager.
Soft Skills:
- Bi-lingual a plus. (Must be proficient in reading, writing speaking Spanish and English.)
- An initiative-taker mentality, yet extremely collaborative.
- Personable with the ability to set up strong relationships with others.
- Proficiency with Microsoft office suite preferred.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
