Applications are invited for the positions of Learning Centre Coordinator in the Library and Learning Commons Division, located at both the Welland campus and the Daniel J.

Patterson campus in Niagara on the Lake. The starting hourly rate is $35.06 / hr (Pay Band H $35.06 to $40.71 / hr) for a 35 hour work week.

Additional hours may be required as necessary.

Reporting to the Director, Libraries and Learning Commons, the successful candidate will provide academic support to students through the development of learning resources, coordinating peer and / academic drop-in and related learning support programs and services, delivering 1 : 1 supports to students directly and scheduling learning support services.

Through outreach to the academic programs, Health, Wellness and Accessibility and Academic Advising, as well as working with the students, the Learning Centre Coordinator will ensure the support suits the needs of stakeholders and fits within the scope of the Learning Centre service model delivery to provide relevant academic support that promotes student retention and success.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Explores ways to target certain populations to achieve academic success that contributes to retention initiatives and student success rate improvement.
  • Develops high quality learning resources in print and online, in consultation with the Director, Libraries and Learning Commons.
  • Develops, coordinates, and facilitates workshops, online or in-person, in areas such as English / writing, conversation clubs, critical thinking, math, computers and / or study / learning skills.
  • Tutors and coaches’ students in relevant subject areas (e.g. English, Math, Study Skills, Learning Theories, etc.) based on need.
  • Coordinates group learning sessions / workshops for students in a range of academic program areas.
  • Acts as the first point of contact for problems from students with respect to the peer employees, group learning programs, and workshops.
  • Develops, delivers, and evaluates training in-person and online to peer tutors / leaders, in consultation with the Directors and other colleagues.
  • Prepare student employee work schedules and recommend changes required to support student needs, in consultation with the Director Libraries and Learning Commons, and other colleagues.
  • Plan and facilitate peer employee meetings and assist peer employees in planning / delivering learning sessions that incorporate a wide variety of collaborative learning strategies.
  • Uses applicable learning management systems and other educational technologies to organize and develop Learning Centre Services.

Qualifications :

  • A four (4) year degree in Education, Humanities, Communications, Psychology, Social Sciences, Science or Mathematics.
  • Three (3) years working experience with a diverse student population in an adult learning environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of the educational barriers faced by diverse students, including students with accommodations, adult learners, non-traditional students, new Canadians and English Language Learners.
  • Excellent written, communication, research, and reporting skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel and Power Point).
