General Description
Join us in making a difference in the lives of our veteran students. Niagara County Community College is seeking a passionate and dedicated Veteran Services Success Coach to join our dynamic and supportive Student Success Center.
The Veterans Services Assistant/Success Coach will play an integral role in supporting Veterans Services and student success/completion initiatives. You will play a crucial role in supporting and guiding our veteran students as they pursue their educational and personal goals. You will provide comprehensive coaching and assistance to veteran students, helping them navigate the challenges of transitioning from military service to academic life.

Typical Work Activities
1. Provide intake services and advisement to Veteran students and other assigned cohorts by assessing student needs and providing information and resources about academic requirements, financial aid, career exploration, and special support services.
2. Utilize VAOnce to certify new, returning enrollments and variances to report term, enrollment dates, credit hours, remedial credits, distance learning credits, tuition and fees, effective date or last date of attendance, including new registrations, non-punitive grades, drop/adds, academic dismissals/reinstatements, change of curriculum, advance pay requests, applicable courses, and non-attendance.
3. Support the Veterans Services office by maintaining records in Ellucian Banner, verifying accuracy of records through internal audit, maintaining a tracking spreadsheet of veteran applicants and students, coordinating with other offices regarding tuition payment benefits, meeting with DVA and VA auditors, and attending VA training opportunities.
4. Utilize a case management approach to monitor students’ progress through scheduled individual meetings, monitoring of mid-term reports and advance registration.
5. Serve as a resource for faculty and staff to identify the campus connections and resources that will foster student retention.
6. Support Student Development functions, specifically advisor assignment, Starfish and the creation and maintenance of media and publications.
7. Perform assigned duties to support Student Services events including open house, registration, orientation, advisement and financial literacy.
8. Assist with other duties as needed and assigned by Supervisor.
Essential Functions
Ability to navigate relationships with diverse populations; manage multiple functions, represent the College’s interest in the community, and work effectively in support of the services provided by Student Development. Must be computer literate with excellent oral and written communication skills..
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- One (1) year full time or equivalent part-time paid, professional experience working in either a higher education setting or with military veterans
Desirable Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, Social Work, Counseling
- Experience with VAOnce and familiarity with VA procedures and policies;
- Experience working with Ellucian Banner or other Student Information System in a collegiate setting.
