Position Summary:
The Buyer is responsible for specified MRO and outside process buying. The position requires the application of inventory management skills. In addition, this position will require intermediate purchasing principles, theories, and concepts. The Buyer ensures timely acquisition of products or services from known sources of supply. The Buyer also determines appropriate stocking levels. Additionally, the Buyer may resolve issues in the areas of requisition accuracy and completeness, on-time deliveries, and supplier payments.
Essential Functions:
  • Purchases parts, equipment, and materials by preparing requests for quotation and submitting purchase orders with approved suppliers. Issues purchase orders and agreements that accurately reflect price, schedule, terms, and conditions as negotiated with suppliers. Maintains accurate lead times for assigned commodities.
  • Advises appropriate personnel of recommendations for onsite stocked items to minimize delays in production or delivery.
  • Tracks key categories of stocking spend and leads discussions for priority and timing of parts requests.
  • Initiates supplier stocking agreements to reduce on site inventory dollar levels.
  • Engages with key stakeholders on rules for crib access including after-hours needs.
  • Manages cost savings projects through project management and lean/5S principles and drives to completion.
  • Manages obsolete inventory and provides recommendations for upgrades prior to equipment failures.
  • Identifies and recommends designated category suppliers by investigating potential suppliers, researching parts, equipment, machinery, services, and materials availability. Provides recommendations into preferred supplier list.
  • Support for repair part requirements including quotations.
  • Negotiates rates and agreements for offsite maintenance services including preventive maintenance support.
  • Conducts assigned supplier site visits and evaluates them as to production capability, performance, delivery, and other key business criteria.
  • Evaluates bids for standard and non-standard items, MRO and outside processing items. Recommends suppliers and negotiates price, delivery, quality, and service. Develops alternate sources of supply by identifying and researching prospective suppliers.
  • Performs all other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

    Qualifications:

    Education and Experience
  • Experience in the areas of inventory management and product buying or other relevant discipline. Strong mechanical aptitude is preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective interface with all internal and external contacts
  • Experience and/or exposure to inventory concepts and methodologies, and product purchasing through internships or training programs.
  • Possess analytical and technical skills required to understand business practices and recommend proper inventory stocking levels.
  • Ability to influence across departments.
  • Must have intermediate computer skills and be able to understand elements of electronics processing.
  • Job Related Demands (i.e., physical, travel):
  • Flexibility to alter work schedule for timely completion of projects or to support machine downtime recovery.
  • Prioritization of multiple projects to meet operational goals.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 35 lbs. without assistance and occasionally up to 50 lbs. following company safe lifting protocol.
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in an environment with powdered metal, dust, noise, oils, and chemicals.
  • Occasional travel for meetings or training.
