Overview
You’re passionate about a zero-emissions future and want to build something special. You want to own your space but work with talented, like-minded people on important projects. The pace doesn’t scare you; it excites you. Quality and integrity matter to you.
We feel exactly the same way.
We’re currently on the lookout for a Lead Engineer, CAE Durability who will be responsible for the development of the powertrain development in Nikola’s Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle platforms. This person will use analytical and numerical tools available such as stress-strain and vibration analysis, as well as CAE tools to study and improve the durability of chassis and suspension systems and provide feedback to design teams. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in the design of first-generation battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell trucks.
Responsibilities
- Perform static and fatigue durability analysis of vehicle structures using engineering techniques and finite element tools
- Develop strength and durability finite element models for analysis and optimization of Nikola’s world-class vehicle architectures, especially those involving frame and chassis
- Analyze the structural performance of systems and subsystems using CAE tools and hand calculations
- Provide recommendations to improve the performance of chassis systems and vehicle structure
- Work with design and test engineers to collect road load data for durability analysis of vehicle structures
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in mechanical, structural, aerospace, or related engineering discipline with 10 years of work experience, or Ph.D. in a similar field with 6 years of work experience
- 6 years of experience in commercially available FEM Simulation tools for CAE model development and solvers, especially HYPERMESH, ABAQUS, OPTISTRUCT
- 2 years of experience in structural analysis in automotive industry
- Thorough understanding of stress and fracture mechanics
- Knowledge and experience in fatigue analysis and fatigue analysis tools, e.g. nCode
- Knowledge and experience in frequency domain analysis
- Experience with test data acquisition and test data processing is a plus
- Familiarity with CAD tools, CATIA preferred
