What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Manager position at Nilfisk?
Responsible for managing and reporting on all facets of Incoming Quality, In-process Quality and Finished Product Quality. Ensure that customer and design requirements are being met on purchased components, assembled machines and accessories/service kits using inspection, control and detection-based processes. Has authority and responsibility to Stop Production or issue Quality Hold Notification in order to ensure machines and accessories/service kits which do not meet customer or design requirement are not shipped. Represent the voice of the Customer (VOC) and drive the development of a quality-based culture within manufacturing or distribution operation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Quality Management System
- Ensure compliance with local Quality management system (applicable ISO or internal standards)
- Manage and coordinate internal audits to ensure compliance.
- Facilitate site Management review and required renewal or surveillance audits, including product compliance audits
- Ensure alignment with global systems, procedures, processes where applicable
- Progress the development and implementation of proactive and prevention based quality controls
Leadership
- Manage site quality resources, ensure alignment of skills vs requirements, progress organizational development and ensure compliance to performance management process.
- Manage quality team & related TCOQ budgets, ensure alignment with site quality needs
- Meet quality objectives & performance targets, Support achievement of site objectives & performance targets
- Champion Voice of the Customer (VOC) and development of a quality based culture within the assembly and/or distribution operation
Product Quality
- Implement & ensure timely resolution of Quality Hold Stop Shipments per processes when required
- Support the timely resolution of reported product quality issues (via TFR, QRQC or My Nilfisk processes)
- Interface with customers, sales & service personnel as required to support the resolution of reported product quality issues and to sense the quality perception they may be having.
- Pursues and resolves quality related problems pertaining to returned goods and warranty.
- Report on findings that could lead to Serial Faults or repetitive issues
- Track and report warranty costs and trends.
Returned Parts & Machines (Distribution sites only, where applicable)
- Ensure that necessary facilities, equipment, processes and personnel are in place to process returned parts and machines, including the assessment & reconditioning of machines for resale.
- Ensure data capture and reporting systems are in place to allow the management of freight damage rates, returned part & machine scrap rates, returned part and machine inventory, refurbished machine inventory
Incoming Quality Control (IQC) & Supplier Quality
- Ensure that necessary facilities, equipment, processes and personnel are in place to verify design requirements are being met on purchased components
- Ensure processes are in place to drive CAPA on non-conforming components
- Ensure data capture and reporting systems are in place to allow the management of supplier quality
In-Process Quality Control (IPQC)
- Provide Support of IPQC team as requested
Or at sites where there is not a Plant In Plant structure
- Ensure that necessary equipment, processes and personnel are in place to verify design requirements are being met and detect when they are not being met on assembled machines and accessories/service kits
- Ensure processes are in place to drive CAPA on assembly related quality issues
- Ensure data capture and reporting systems are in place to allow the management of In-Process Quality
Finished Product Quality Control (FQC)
- Ensure that necessary equipment, processes and personnel are in place to verify that finished machines and accessories/service kits have been built in accordance with defined IPQC’s.
- Ensure processes are in place to drive CAPA on non-conforming machines and accessories/service kits
- Ensure data capture and reporting systems are in place to allow the management of Finished Product Quality.
New Product Development Support
- Coordinate with NPI leader to ensure effective planning & completion of quality related NPI deliverables per new product/solutions development project schedules
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or Engineering Technology related field.
Certification of Lead Auditor of QMS & EMS a plus.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 4 years of quality system and control experience within a manufacturing environment, QMS, and knowledge of EMS.
KNOWLEDGE & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:
- Proficient in quality analysis tools such as 5D, SPC, PFMEA etc. Strong problem solving skills with ability to teach basic problem solving techniques and facilitate problem solving team events.
- Experience in developing assembly or fabrication process quality systems & measures. Strong knowledge of fabrication and assembly based quality control methods, tools and techniques.
- Overall knowledge of manufacturing and/or distribution systems
- Demonstrated leadership ability

- Proficiency in use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
- Working knowledge of ERP systems, such as Baan LN, SAP, etc.
- Software for statistical analysis. (Minitab).
- Capability to learn new software.
- Traveling regional and oversees is required in this position.
