Job Description: The New Jersey Assembly Majority Office seeks a detail-oriented Deputy Press Secretary to join fast-paced communications team in its Trenton office. The selected candidate will routinely interact with Democratic members of the New Jersey State Assembly and their staff.
Core Responsibilities: The Deputy Press Secretary will assist the Communiations department with all functions of the press team, including drafting written materials and memos as well working with, and responding to, reporters and helping with digital content. The Deputy Press Secretary reports to the Deputy Director of Communiations.
Primary Duties will include:
- Drafting press advisories, press releases, statements, video scripts, talking points, interview memos and other written materials for the Assembly Democrats;
- Creating digital content across social media platforms;
- Contributing to management of the website;
- Assisting the Communications Director and team with reporter responses and pitching.
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Careful attention to detail;
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and manage competing deadlines;
- Ability to work closely in a team environment as well as work independently;
- Sound political judgement;
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Journalism, Puvlic Policy, Political Science and related field
- 1-3 years of previous communications experience preferred
- Knowledge of Constant Contact, Canva and WordPress is desirable
About Us: The Assembly Majority Office oversees communications and policy for the Democratic members of the New Jersey General Assembly's Majority Office under the directions of the Assembly Speaker.

- Must be able to reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (Required)
- Some travel as necessary to events and meetings.
