Reports to the Academic Manager and is a salaried, exempt position.  Administers adult basic education test (TABE) to students to determine their initial, interim, and final reading and math performance achievement levels and learning gains. Demonstrates on-going commitment to preparing young people for the workforce by modeling, mentoring, and monitoring excellence in the eight Career Success Standards of:  workplace relations and ethics; information management; communications; multicultural awareness; personal growth and development; career and personal planning; interpersonal skills and independent living.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administers, scores and records TABE test results.
  • Determines the results of TABE test as satisfactory or unsatisfactory based on Center and ETA procedures and criteria.
  • Compiles and distributes a list of each student’s test results to appropriate department heads. 
  • Maintains all required records and test results on students.
  • Submits weekly activity reports to the Academic Manager.
  • Projects supplies and/or equipment needs and submits requisitions to the Academic Manager.
  • Meets with college personnel to explore all possible avenues for placement.
  • Reviews records to ascertain which students would benefit from college programs.
  • May conduct tours of the center for college personnel.  Serves as guest speaker on and off-center.
  • Assists students in registering for and scheduling classes and other matters as needed for college enrollment.
  • Conducts individual and group counseling sessions with assigned students regarding educational and personal development.
  • Attends required staff training sessions.
  • Clearly communicates and consistently models appropriate CSS and employability skills including personal responsibility and computer fluency.
  • Maintains accountability of staff, students, and property, adheres to safety practices in all areas of responsibility.
  • Cultivates and maintains a climate on center that is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:          

  • Bachelor’s degree in work-related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • One year of work-related experience.
  • Prefer experience with teenage youth from disadvantaged background.   
  • Valid State driver’s license in the state of employment with acceptable driving record.

Additional Requirements: Knowledge of availability of financial aid and scholarships. Knowledge of test administration and evaluation with some instructional techniques. Familiarity with area colleges. Ability to communicate effectively and relate to trainee population.  Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Position requires an ability to operate office equipment. In addition, individual must be able to interact with team members and maintain an effective working relationship with all facility staff and departments.

Working Conditions: This position involves frequent sitting, standing, and walking and occasional driving.   Applicant must be able to see, hear, and speak.

Environmental Demands: Position requires ability to spend 15% of work time outside and 85% of work time indoors; ability to withstand moderate noise levels, including voice levels 90% of work time, ability to work in high temperature settings during the summer months; and ability to work in low temperature settings in winter months.
