About the Internship
nLIGHT is currently recruiting for a Finance student to intern with us for the summer of 2023. This internship is a 10 to 12-week program that offers challenging assignments, projects, and career development opportunities to enhance your professional growth. You will also earn a competitive salary based on your discipline and academic class status.
What You Can Expect to Learn- Government Asset Tracking Policy
- Goal - Have a process in place for government asset tracking
- Deliverable - A documented corporate policy and workflow where all responsible parties understand their role
- Financial Analyst Rotation Program
- Exposure in supporting all main areas of the company with Finance support
- Government Asset Policy
- Work with Finance Manager and Legal to understand compliance requirements on tracking government-owned assets
- Train on government asset software program that has been purchased and understand related existing corporate policies that could be leveraged to support this workflow
- Develop recommendation on workflow and responsibility owner from purchase/receipt to maintaining on-site tracking and government reporting compliance
- Support and assist Finance Manager on socializing, modifying, implementing, and documenting final policy. This will require working with many other departments at all levels of management
- Financial Analyst Rotation Program
- Manufacturing Operations
- Exposure to reporting platforms and how to access information from business systems
- Update forecast of area and provide explanations of forecast variances (vs. last qtr, last year, last forecast)
- Complete a “cost to build” calculations
- Business Unit Support
- Support update of “cost to complete” on on-going time and materials contracts
- Update forecast for Business Unit and provide explanations of forecast variances (vs. last qtr, last year, last forecast)
- Use skills developed when supporting Operations to automate reporting that help justify forecast for both items above
- Corporate Finance
- Roll-up monthly forecast submissions from Finance Managers to develop corporate forecast. Work with area owners to provide explanations of forecast variances (vs. last qtr, last year, last forecast)
- Manufacturing Operations

- You have strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information and escalating issues timely to keep projects on track
- Strong computer information system skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including ability to work with large volumes of data and use of advanced formulas
- Strong skills in other Microsoft programs; particularly Word and PowerPoint
- Ability to learn new software programs quickly
- Some experience using a visualization software (PowerBI, Tableau) is a plus
Intern Social Events
This summer we are bringing on around 5 interns and want to ensure the time is well spent on and off the clock! That said, our interns can expect adventures in the PNW, board game nights at local breweries/coffee shops, the nLIGHT Summer Picnic, Happy Hour networking events with Senior Leadership, and much more!

- $21 - $25/hr
