Job Description
Performs various repetitive clerical payroll transactions which require familiarity with office procedures and basic knowledge of payroll and labor processes as defined by the organization. Identifies and corrects routine discrepancies.
Responsibilities
- Responds to employee inquiries.
- Enters manual and correcting time sheets.
- Enters emergency pay draws, terminations and other off-cycle pay requests.
- Enters Gift Cards / Service Awards / Prizes
- Enters employee uniform reimbursements
- Enters Other Employee Receivables Due
- Enters off-cycle PTO cash outs.
- Reconciles employee leave and enters leave adjustments.
- Reviews preliminary edit reports.
- Enters garnishments and reviews garnishment calculations.
- Reconciles employee benefit arrears and reviews deductions.
- Applies company policy to payroll requests and escalates when not within policy.
- Maintains/updates process documentation for Payroll Technician I handbook.
- Attends local payroll chapter monthly training sessions and other training as assigned.
- May assist in training lower level staff.
- Performs Payroll Administrative duties when need.
- Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.
Qualifications
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.Associates Degree in Accounting preferred.
- At least one (1) year specialized payroll experience in a computerized environment supplemented by additional years of computer work experience. Significant preference will be given to those with current version Costpoint software experience.
- Prior experience must have included all relevant Payroll functions in an automated computerized environment, including scanning, preparation, data entry, and filing.
- Basic knowledge of payroll asset, liability and expense accounts preferred.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality at all times while displaying a professional disposition.
- Data entry speed 75 wpm minimum with 98% accuracy with a demonstrated ability to complete work in a neat, timely and accurate manner. Attention to detail is essential.
- Ability to follow direction, work within a team, and establish credibility with all levels of management and staff of the Company to which they are assigned.
- Basic computer skillset in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Candidates will be required to complete a skills evaluation exam.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to set priorities to assure deadlines are met.
- Ability to work at a fast pace and to manage multiple projects simultaneously is essential. Results oriented with the ability to respond to the needs of the department and Company.
- Must demonstrate exceptional attendance, reliability, dependability and good work ethic
- Must be willing to attend payroll training as directed and work towards payroll certification.
- CPP or FPC certification preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Indoors: environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside.
Noise level: Moderate to Loud.
Description of environment: Environment will vary based on the facility assigned to.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently to constantly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
