GENERAL PURPOSE:

To provide a wide range of accounting services, prepare for audits, payroll processing, accounts receivable, grant management, tax activities and other financial management services as assigned by the Superintendent or CEO.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting required
  • Masters of Business Administration preferred
  • CPA, certified through the Minnesota Board of Accountancy (BOA)
  • At least 5 years of related experience
  • Previous experience working with various aspects of office administration and customer service, preferably in a charter school setting

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Properly report revenue and pay taxes
  • Properly prepare information needed for audits
  • Oversee accounts receivable and process payrolls, employee benefits and other compensations
  • Manage grants which includes processing and maintenance of mandated grant reports
  • Monitor state and federal programs requiring reimbursements
  • Monitor financial activities, analyze budget to actual, identify and investigate variances and resolve issues
  • Financial reporting including drafting and analyzing financial statements and reconciliation of bank accounts
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date files of accounting data as needed to meet regulatory, audit and compliance requirements.
  • Other financial management duties as outlined by the Superintendent or CEO.
  • Works closely under the supervision of the Superintendent to create a functional and cohesive administrative team

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

· Strong strategic planning and analytical accounting skills

· Must be highly skilled in use of Excel Spreadsheets and Microsoft word.

· Knowledge of or willingness to learn additional software programs

· Attention to details, problem solving skills and professional judgment to identify issues

· Ability and willingness to keep records and office space organized and easily accessible

· Ability to work under a tight deadline and to meet or exceed deadlines

· Ability to handle sensitive information with absolute discretion required

· Considerable knowledge of and ability to perform office management duties, practices and procedures

· Considerable knowledge of and ability to operate office equipment

· Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

· Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a variety of personality types and dispositions in numerous circumstances while maintaining a controlled, tactful, respectful, professional manner

· Self-starter who takes initiative

· Excellent team player with a positive attitude

  • Ability to relate effectively with people of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds

· Ability to remain calm in an emergency

· Ability to think clearly in any situation, determine priorities, and handle multiple tasks

· Ability to make appropriate decisions quickly

· Willingness to show initiative in problem solving and team goal achievements

· Extremely talented in organizational skills as accurate financial records are critical

· Knowledge of charter school laws and systems preferred
