Noblis is currently seeking a Robotics Engineer for our Autonomous Systems Research Center and government client team.

This is an opportunity for someone with a background and experience in mechanical, robotics, and/or systems engineering to support a portfolio of projects in the Noblis Autonomous Systems Research Center in Reston, VA and our government client research team in Merrifield, VA.
Noblis provides autonomous systems evaluation and prototyping services to multiple federal clients, seeking disruptive innovation to transform agency delivery in an increasingly connected and automated world. A focus of Noblis expertise is in the development and testing of heterogenous teams of autonomous machines capable of ad hoc self-organization, tasking, verification, and earned trust reporting. Use cases for this capability range from package delivery and management for the USPS, roadway operations combining connected infrastructure and automated vehicles for USDOT, and non-civilian use cases related to automated reconnaissance.
As a member of this dynamic team you will participate in the following activities:
- Developing integrated hardware/software solutions related to autonomous systems safety, efficiency, resiliency, and reliability
- Development of concepts of operations, requirements, and system design elements
- Full cycle simulation planning, bench testing, and field test design to assess the effectiveness of alternative autonomous system control mechanisms
- Assessing and tuning process automation in complex package sortation for USPS
- Developing white papers and presentations
- Overseeing technical and programmatic activities
- Reviewing standards to determine their completeness
- Evaluating standards deployment outreach tools
- Reviewing project specifications and design documents
- Developing statements of work and Government cost estimates
- Occasional domestic and international travel (less than 10% a year)
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- BS required; MS preferred. One of more degrees in one of the following: Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Operations Research.
- 0-3 years of experience in the application of Robotics in process automation, autonomous search, and recovery, and/or the development and testing of autonomous vehicles/machines.
- Strong analytical ability required
- Experience in developing products and systems (hardware, software, or both)
- Strong ability to design mechanical parts and assemblies in 3D CAD design software
- Experience with robotic system integration, sensors, and actuators are required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required
- Strong professional, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Candidate demonstrates the following:
- Writes a variety of technical documents and prepares and presents briefings
- Author/contributor/reviewer, peer review publications
- Works independently to determine approach to and technical objectives of work assignments
- Ensures client objectives for quality, schedule, and budget are met or exceeded through direct and creative approaches
- Interacts with client representatives on significant technical and project matters
- Identifies and develops solutions to program problems
- Uses a variety of professional concepts and methodologies
Preferred Qualifications:
An understanding of, and familiarity with, the following is a plus:
- Connected and/or automated vehicle technologies
- Autonomous/automated system design and development
- Standards development process and the use of standards
- Wireless communications networks
- Cybersecurity concepts and processes
- Electrical panels, electrical boards, and wiring
