What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief of Staff to COO/CFO position at Nogin?
Chief of Staff to COO/CFO
Nogin is redefining the modern commerce landscape with its market-leading Commerce as a Service (CaaS) solution. We are obsessed with the growth of our clients’ online channels. Our approach is to build and deliver a unique commerce technology offering, backed by leading talent that is highly valued by our brand clients. We live at the center of the rapidly evolving digital world, connecting leading brands to technology and experience. Nogin is headquartered in sunny Orange County, CA and is an award winning place to work.
WHO YOU ARE
- Nogin is looking for a Chief of Staff to report directly to its COO and CFO. The successful candidate will be a high performing individual from one of three professional backgrounds:
- Management consulting: Bain, BCG, McKinsey, AT Kearney, or Oliver Wyman (or equivalent)
- Investment Banking or Private Equity: Preferred level is 3rd year IB or 2nd year associate PE
- E-Commerce business, with some blend of the above background strongly preferred
- By virtue of coming from one of the above backgrounds, you will have demonstrated academic excellence in Economics, Operations Research, Finance/Accounting, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or other similar degree(s).
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- The right fit for this role demonstrates a strong ability to link financial and operational drivers to one another, and to be quantitatively rigorous and qualitatively insightful about your work. You will be interfacing with all direct reports and thus will also require a high EQ. You will know how to model extensively and to share the outputs and dynamics of such modeling with a wide array of audiences with different functional backgrounds.
- This role will not be less rigorous than anything you’ve done in your career thus far. It will likely require as much or more time and energy than your previous roles, but you will make measurable impact to the organization and likely learn something new every day. You will be counted on to create initial proof of concept models and reporting that directly enable actions in a prioritized, 80/20 (where applicable) manner.
- This role is also not remote. You will work side by side with the COO/CFO at his home office on the Upper East Side of Manhattan (in a commercial office suite located on the first floor of his residence). Our EVP Data Science and Analytics also works from this location. This role will also often require weekend work (alongside the COO/CFO) and 1-2x/month travel to California where most employees are located.
- The COO/CFO has an extensive financial, operational and e-commerce background and his highly analytical in nature. He requires a right hand that can at times operate completely independent of him but will also be directly mentored by him. From a career path perspective, time in this role will ensure you have full understanding of all functions within an e-commerce focused business, experience with scaling a company quickly over the next 2-3 years, and the confidence and ability to make business-defining decisions.
- If you come from the above backgrounds and have read through here, you already know that the standard “works well in a fast-paced environment” language is unnecessary, as are many other descriptors that fill typical Job Description templates.
- This role is meant for someone who wants to transform and accelerate their career, and is looking for a mentor to teach, guide and support them during a critical point in their career.
