Nokia is seeking talented and motivated patent engineers and patent attorneys/agents to apply their legal, technical, and communication skills with engineers and business units to develop the highest quality, high-value patents throughout the world. The individual will be required to understand the technology, preferably also domestic and international patent laws, and work in a cooperative atmosphere to achieve this goal. The position offers exceptional opportunity for hands-on involvement in the wider commercial implications of IPR, thus offering a broader view to utilize your skills than just traditional patent attorney roles.
What you will learn and contribute to
- develop and maintain a global patent portfolio in cellular communication standards such as LTE and 5G
- responsible for all aspects of patent procurement activities including patent preparation, filing, prosecution, Foreign Filing, claim charting, etc.
- determine the best filing strategy, prosecute and, where necessary, manage prosecution by outside patent counsel in support of that strategy
- review invention disclosure submissions related to 5G and 6G technologies to determine business relevance and technical patentability
- work closely and communicate effectively with inventors, R&D and 3GPP standardization team members to identify innovations and protect high value inventions reading on cellular communication standards including 5G
- map patent claims to cellular communication standards including LTE and 5G
- assist in identifying competitive standard essential patent portfolio
Your skills and experience
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- either you are fully or partly qualified Patent Attorney/Agent, or alternatively, no previous patent experience is required if you have strong R&D background and experience in 3GPP related cellular technologies.
- Bachelor's degree or graduate degree (in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, or another closely related technology area relevant to Nokia's business concerns
- strong technological background and familiarity with cellular communication standards essential technologies such as LTE and 5G
- ability to work proactively, multi-task and meet aggressive IP timelines
- excellent teamwork and written and oral communication skills
- an aptitude for continuous learning new and complex technology
- you have at least 5 years of experience in the IPR field or in a cellular standards R&D environment.

- United States Salary Range: United States salary range: annual base salary of 106,050-196,950 USD plus eligibility for incentive/variable pay.
