LOCATION: Hybrid. Office location at St. Vincent Medical Center, Portland, Oregon.

POSITION: Full-time, exempt position.

SALARY: $85,000-$90,000. Generous benefits including health insurance, retirement, vacation, holidays.

About Us

The Oregon Pediatric Society (OPS) is a strong statewide voice for the health and well-being of all infants, children, and adolescents, while supporting those that care for them. We are the state chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the professional-membership, medical standards, and advocacy organization for pediatricians. OPS provides continuing education, clinical quality improvement projects, and peer networking for medical and behavioral health providers.

OPS champions anti-racist, equitable, and science-based policies to improve pediatric care and public health, mental health care access, the environment, and other social influences on health. OPS staff work in partnership with the states child medical providers; primary care clinics; hospital systems and medical schools; K 12 schools; behavioral health and early learning providers; the Oregon Health Authority; Coordinated Care Organizations; the State legislature; public health; families, and community organizations.

Position Overview

The Program Director will have full responsibility for managing the implementation of currently funded and new programs; researching and applying for funding for new projects; and assessing results of OPS programming. All with the support of the Executive Director and other staff.

Current programs include a youth pediatric behavioral health contract with the Oregon Health Authority and child and clinician-focused projects with the AAP. In addition, OPS develops and offers virtual and in-person continuing education trainings and conferences for those who work in pediatric clinical, behavioral health, and school settings, as well as those in graduate or medical schools.

The Program Director will work with funding administrators, state agencies, curriculum development content experts, community-based and equity partners, suicide prevention and behavioral health researchers, OPS member advisors, the American Academy of Pediatrics, family advisors, state and national training partners, and learning collaborative participants. This position is responsible for recruiting and managing curriculum developers, trainers, participants, and facilitators, and could also fill that role as needed or appropriate.

Responsibilities

Strategic Team Leadership

  • Partner with Executive Director on strategy, goals, and opportunities.
  • Assist in securing and sustaining project funding.
  • Provide business development ideas, outreach, and management for sharing medical suicide prevention curriculum nationally.
  • Actively work in collaboration to manage projects including budget, expectations, timelines and deliverables.
  • Develop information, recommendations, processes, and/or tools to support objectives and effectiveness of programs and projects.
  • Set and evaluate performance goals, listen to and hold colleagues and oneself accountable for individual and team work.
  • Stays current on health issues facing communities OPS serves.
  • Maintain material development/content to align with best practices and new research.
Program Management Development

  • Directly lead and manage existing programs confirming implementation strategies and reporting mechanisms.
  • Research program opportunities for OPS including: funding streams, curriculum needs, implementation strategies, and evaluation metrics.
  • Prepares grant applications and reports.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of virtual and in-person trainings, learning communities, conferences, and other events based on the mission of OPS and needs of the medical community.
  • Recruit project participants, developers, trainers, and partners as needed.
  • Oversee ongoing program quality management activities and integrate quality improvement into daily program operations.
Communication Community Relations

  • Represent OPS and collaborate with stakeholders to enact programs and partnerships that fulfill mission and strategic goals.
  • Participate on and contribute to key committees, coalitions, and workgroups, representing the needs of OPS.
  • Develop and facilitate a family advisory council for the organization.
  • Provide written content for newsletters and communication pieces.
Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in healthcare related subject, education/training, counseling, or social work or Bachelors Degree with 10 years of experience.
  • Curriculum development and training experience.
  • Nonprofit grant writing required, preferably for health care projects..
  • Knowledge of health equity issues, social and other drivers of health, program design and evaluation; needs assessments, data collection and analysis, quality improvement concepts.
  • Strong working knowledge of health care delivery systems, community-based organizations, funders, trainers, and community partners.
  • Strong supervisory skills and work experience with direct report(s) and contractors.
  • Project and event management skills including:
  • Ability to track multiple activities with detailed, thorough, and accurate implementation;
  • Project budgeting and financial stewardship;
  • Creating work plans; measuring outcomes.
  • Managing contractors, staff, funders, and sponsors.
  • Clear, effective written and verbal communication. Provide frequent updates and timely requests to the ED and team members.
Additional Desired Skills Experience

  • Preferred work/life experience with behavioral health care providers or systems, physicians, public health, early learning or child development.
  • Proficiency with using/learning computer software (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, spreadsheets, event and project management software like Trello).
  • Demonstrated actions towards advancing equity; valuing an inclusive working and learning environment.

  • Valid Oregon drivers license and proof of insurance, and passing a background check required.
