NORC partners with government, corporate, and nonprofit clients around the world to conduct survey research that informs critical decisions facing society.

  • NORC Field Data Collectors, internally known as field interviewers, play a significant role in collecting the data that drives our research.
  • They conduct phone and in-person interviews to gather survey data for research on subjects including health care, employment, education, and economics.

The Ideal Candidate for Field Data Collector

  • Looking for flexible, part-time work (20 25 hours a week). Our most successful interviewers typically dedicate 4-6 hours a day to interviewing.
  • Self-starter who can manage, organize, and commit to your own work schedule.
  • Enjoys meeting new people from diverse backgrounds and professions.
  • Available to meet with people in-person at their homes, jobs, via phone, or other public spaces to conduct interviews.
  • Has field interviewer, enumerator, customer-facing, sales, or customer service experience.
  • Must be comfortable making contact with participants unannounced and without appointments.

Requirements For Employment :

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED Preferred.
  • Field Interviewer experience preferred.
  • Must be comfortable working with elderly and frail respondents.
  • Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and access to reliable transportation.
  • Must be willing to drive in metropolitan / urban / rural areas within a 50 100-mile range.
  • Overnight travel will be required to reach most respondents.
  • Able to work a mix of day, afternoon, evening, and weekends when people are more likely to be at home.
  • Must have basic knowledge of a tablet or laptop computer usage skills such as sending email or opening and using a web browser to search for information.
  • All employees hired for this position must present evidence of their identity and authorization to work in the United States (I9 documentation).

Salary And Benefits :

This position is classified as intermittent. The pay rate for this position will be $19.50 per hour, based on experience and geographic location.

  • NORC will contribute to an individually owned, fully vested retirement account for those who meet eligibility requirements.
  • Intermittent staff are eligible to make pre-tax or post-tax contributions as part of NORC’s Supplemental Retirement Plan.
  • NORC will provide compensation for training hours, mileage reimbursement, and other approved expenses.
  • Free counseling and referrals through NORC's Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • Eligible for 2 days holiday pay.
  • Paid orientation and training.
  • Possibility for advancement into full-time management roles.
  • Opportunity for annual raises and / or performance bonuses for those who meet performance goals.

NSHAP (National Social Life, Health, & Aging Project) is the first national study of the intersection between social and intimate relationships and aging.

  • Project will begin training in early May 2024. Work begins once training has been completed in May 2024 and the project is anticipated to continue through November 2024.
  • Field data collection is project-based work that ends once the research is complete.
  • Because of the temporary nature of field work, these positions are great for students, teachers, retirees, and others who are looking for flexible, contracted work.
