About the Role
Mission/Role Purpose
Provide comprehensive job development and placement services to deaf and hard of hearing individuals in partnership with the California Employment Development Department.
Essential Functions of the Job
**Due to COVID-19 Workplace Safety Precautions – This position works REMOTELY via zoom, facetime or other media that allows remote meetings with consumers until further notice.
- Provide comprehensive job development and placement services to deaf and hard of hearing clientele.
- Recruit and enroll deaf and hard of hearing participants including client intake and completion of all necessary paperwork; assist clients by providing job referral and placement, vocation assessment, counseling, on-the-job counseling, job search workshops, referrals to training and support services, and follow-up support following placement.
- Develop employer contacts, educate employer, and provide technical assistance regarding the employability of the deaf and hard of hearing person through use of flyers, brochures, and deaf awareness presentations.
- Maintain job information resources, client information and records of employer contacts.
- Serve as an advocate for participants seeking employment and related issues.
- Maintain client records on Cal-Jobs computer system.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of EDD Services for the purpose of carrying contractual obligations.
About you
Education and Qualifications
College experience up to and including an AA Degree or demonstrated experience in a field related to Employment Assistance for individuals.
Strong background knowledge in the field of deafness and experience working with deaf and hard of hearing people of diverse communication and language skills. Fluency in American Sign Language required. Knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (1974), Americans with Disabilities Act (1990), and other employment related laws desired. Experience with application processes, creating resumes, interviewing techniques and other aspects of assisting individuals to find meaningful employment. Good customer service skills to work with potential employers.
Knowledge of computer programs such as Word, EXCEL and Outlook E-Mail system and MS Office. Willingness to drive to appointments as needed. Willingness to be flexible in working with a variety of persons in group and individual settings. Good organization skills and ability to function in a team environment
Good organization skills, customer service background and ability to communicate with professionalism and work effectively in a team environment. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance as required by law or have reliable means of transportation.
