Duties
- Conduct regular inspections and assessments to identify potential health and safety hazards in the workplace
- Develop and implement comprehensive training programs to educate employees on proper safety procedures and practices
- Collaborate with management and employees to address any health or safety concerns and provide recommendations for improvement
- Investigate incidents and accidents to determine root causes and develop strategies to prevent future occurrences
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of existing safety programs and policies, making adjustments as necessary
- Maintain accurate records and prepare detailed reports on findings, recommendations, and corrective actions taken

The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement, if qualifying based on experience resumes must show the below specialized experience.
GS-7:
Experience with analyzing data to identify trends
Experience with applying knowledge of industrial hygiene concepts, practices, sampling techniques, instrumentation, and control measures
Experience with reviewing specifications, plans, and technical documents to identify and detect health hazards.
Experience conducting industrial hygiene surveys and evaluations to identify health hazards
GS-9
Experience with analyzing exposure sampling data to identify exposure trends
Extensive experience with investigating personnel exposure mishaps, spills, and hazardous conditions/incidents
Experience with reviewing and implementing national, federal, defense, and Navy occupational health standards, manuals, reports and other formal written communication.
Experience with conducting surveys and evaluation reports to recommend corrective action.
If using education to qualify for the position, the below applies for each grade.
GS-7: 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement
GS-9: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree
