We are seeking an Engineering Manager who will be responsible for the engineering, geology, and surveying departments at the San Miguel Lingate Mine. This is a great opportunity for an Engineering professional who enjoys working with a high performing team while making an impact.  The position is responsible for short-and long-range planning, assisting with budgets, AOP, cost saving studies, directs capital equipment expenditure programs, and directs the Engineering Department. The

candidate will be a master at forging relationships with internal and external stakeholders while providing guidance to an on-site engineering team.

Responsibilities

What We Are Looking For

 

  • Safety Culture Enhancement: Amplify the mine's safety culture by emphasizing proactive safety behaviors, comprehensive training programs, and rigorous safety procedures.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to all safety, health, environmental policies, and governmental regulations.
  • Team Development: Actively coach, mentor, evaluate, and train staff, fostering an environment that encourages professional growth and succession planning.
  • Assisting with plans, budget, and equipment assessment: Regularly evaluate present and future plans, budgets, and equipment requirements for the mine and any related construction needs.
  • Policy Administration: Uphold and administer the Company's policy, reinforcing its principles and guidelines throughout the mine's operations
  •  Oversees the Engineering services provided in support of Client requirements and the needs of the General Mine Manager, along with the departmental needs of Operations, Maintenance, Safety, and Administration.
  • Supervises the Engineering Department technical staff consisting of engineers and surveyor(s),
  • Ensures that the department produces a superior product in terms of timely quantity, quality and accuracy.
  • Responsible for specifications, communication and control related to the successful implementation of the mine permits, ground control plan, mining plan, resource requirements, operating costs, reclamation plan, and the coal reserve characterization, recovery and delivered quality.
  • Responsible for implementation of the Management Services Contract with SMECI.
  • Creates the Annual Mine Plan and Life of Mine Plan for Client approval.
  • Responsible for assisting in evaluation of Capex equipment needs, specifications, and economic impact to efficiently and economically achieve the AMP and LOMP.
  • Performs in-depth analysis and interpretation & recommendations of technical solutions.
  • Measures operational performance and reports results of Key Performance Indicators vs Plan.
  • Provides GPS and survey controls to assist Operations in execution against the Plan.
  • Reviews, provides analysis, and resolves complex field engineering/construction problems and discrepancies.
  • Provides interpretation of plans, detail sheets, and specifications for Operations.
  • Provides work guidance to technical staff within the scope of the SMLM project.

Qualifications

What Makes You the One

  • Engineering degree in Mining, Civil, Geology or related field.
  • Advanced Engineering degree or MBA preferred.
  • 10 years’ mining experience, preferably in coal employing dragline operations.
  • A Professional Engineering License preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, SurvCadd, Excel, GPS, Vulcan, AutoCAD, etc.
  • Working knowledge of financial and accounting principals
  • Detailed oriented with the ability to work on numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Flexibility as plans and priorities change quickly.
  • Ability to work on projects that are not for public knowledge and handle confidential employee issues
  • Proven leadership with the ability to manage multiple individuals directly reporting to the engineering manager.
  • Develop and mentor others as needed in that the department is cross-trained by job function and receives technical training, as required.
  • Approachable – ensure employees feel comfortable bringing ideas to this position.
  • Ability to manage both up and down the organization.
  • Develop positive relationships with the client.

Utilizing two large draglines and a variety of heavy equipment, the mine is capable of providing approximately 1.8 million tons of lignite each year, which helps power more than 78,000 homes in 42 counties.
