Advancement Services provides timely, accurate and actionable resources to enhance fundraising and engagement activities at NC State University. We achieve this through effective business intelligence and reporting, compelling donor research and analysis, innovative technology, quality donor and alumni information, and superior customer service, all while applying ethical gift and data management practices.

Donor Services assists in creating, reviewing, and approving gift agreements between donors and university-affiliated foundations, many of which support NC State's $1 billion endowment. In addition, Donor Services produces more than 4,000 endowment reports for donors annually. This office also manages the approval process and calculates the gift minimum recommendation level for donor-funded naming opportunities. Overall, the Office of Donor Services serves as a central resource for:

  • Gift agreements
  • Endowment reporting
  • Donor-funded professorships
  • Naming opportunities
Essential Job Duties
Donor Services is seeking an Associate Director of Donor Services who will focus on managing the gift agreements and naming opportunities and who enjoys working in a fast-paced and innovative team environment. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing skills, experience in writing agreements and/or contracts, experience tracking tasks and duties, be capable of working with processes that require analytical skills and problem-solving, have experience being responsible for many simultaneous and detail-oriented duties and experience working directly with frontline development staff and facility staff.

This position will be responsible for the following:

  • Manage, lead, and mentor staff focused on gift agreements including corporate agreements and distinguish professorships.
  • Exercise independent decision-making and authority in programs related to gift agreements and enhance existing processes.
  • Manage the automated gift agreement process with electronic signatures for 500 agreements a year.
  • Ensure legal and administration compliance for gift agreements during the review and approval process to comply with IRS, state and federal, NC State, and UNC policies and regulations.
  • Develop, manage, track, and assign daily tasks for staff. Negotiate donor intent language, draft gift language, and write talking points for development officers.
  • Create, maintain, and enhance training materials, tip sheets, and toolkits for staff and development officers.
  • Ability to evaluate and recommend resource needs
  • Manage communication, in written and oral form, detailed and technical program information, guidelines, and standards/statutes/codes/regulations to various audiences to ensure that they understand the information and the message and to seek compliance.
  • Collaborate and advise strategic partners, including the Provost Office, Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, Office of General Counsel, Office of Foundation Accounting and Investments, Office of the University Architect, and various colleges/units.
  • Assist the Director in developing strategic planning for Donor Services to align with University Advancement goals.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in the area of assignment, of which at least one is supervisory or in a lead-worker capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Experience working in one of the following environments: higher education, legal, policy analysis or development, stewardship/donor relations advancement services, fundraising, project management, scholarship, and financial aid or related fields.
  • At least one year of supervision experience or relevant experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative, along with the ability to collaborate closely with the team and external partners.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Expert with Microsoft Applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Google Suite.
  • Ability to quickly learn new software applications.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience working with confidential information.
  • Experience translating policy to clients.
  • Experience in communicating with a wide audience and explaining complex materials to customers.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Expertise in writing, including the use of English grammar, punctuation, spelling and syntax.
  • Ability to conduct independent research.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or a postgraduate degree
  • Experience in professional writing and editing.
  • Experience in a database system and process tracking experience.
  • Proficient in project management.
  • An extensive understanding of fundraising or understanding of donor relations.
  • Extensive experience in writing gift agreements.
