Job Description:
North Central Electric, Inc. (NCE) is looking for an experienced relay technician technician within the medium and high voltage industry. NCE primarily deals with power generation and electric utility companies. Knowledge of electrical MV and HV equipment is a must. NCE is headquartered in Langhorne, PA. This position is to support our demand for relay technicians working for local electric utility clients in the Washington DC area.
Responsibilities/Skills:
- Perform electrical tests on medium and high voltage equipment:Transformers of all sizes
Oil, vacuum, and SF6 circuit breakers
Current and Potential Transformers
Protective Relays (electromechanical, solid state, microprocessor, etc.)
- Familiarity with modern test equipment for medium and high voltage equipment
- Knowledge of protective relays and protection schemes
- Knowledge and ability to read AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams (panel, junction boxes, etc)
- Ability to perform trip/functional checks based off of AC/DC schematics
- Be able to properly isolate equipment from service in order to perform job tasks correctly and prevent inadvertant operation of equipment
- Understanding transformer LTC (load tap changer), alarms, relays, and controls
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Doble F6150 utilizing Protection Suite
- Computer skills and willingness to learn new software packages
- Various testing software packages (mainly Doble software, SEL AcSELerator Quickset, GE Multilin)
- MS Office Suite
- Ability to write and review technical documents
- Compile all test results from project and organize them into a technical report for customer records
- Manage small testing crews in order to meet the job demand
- Review test results performed by others within NCE
- Work closely with the Project Managers and General Contractor’s foreman to determine that the proper sequence of work is being performed on projects
- Review all project schematics and perform as-builts as necessary
- Communicate job status and projected completion dates with the customer
- Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations
- Coordinate outage schedules with customer, other contractors on site, and NCE
- Perform pre-job JSA with all employees and coordinate testing with other contractors on site
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience providing technical service and/or engineering support in a utility and/or industrial substation type environment
- Negative drug test result(s).
- Clean Driver's License
- Background Check
- Familiarity with ANSI, NETA, or IEEE testing standards
- Knowledge of OSHA and Lockout/Tag-out procedures
Preferred Qualifications (not all need to be applied to meet qualification standards):
- NETA Level III or higher
- IBEW member (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers)
- OSHA 30 qualified
- TWIC card
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering from an ABET credited university/college
