The Aging and Disability Resource Center Information and Referral Specialist assists people of all ages with all types of disabilities, older adults, and family caregivers access long-term services and supports such as home health, medical transportation, and respite care. The Specialist makes referrals to programs including, but not limited to, Area Agency on Aging case management, STAR PLUS Waiver, VA Aid and Attendance, and Health and Human Services Commission Community Attendant Services. In addition, it provides information about public housing and public benefits, including Medicaid, and assistance in applying for public benefits.

Essential responsibilities include assessing callers' needs for health or social services, determining agencies or programs that may be able to meet those needs, and organizing resource information. Although most contact is telephonic and one time only, the Information and Referral specialist may be assigned a small number of persons who require follow-up through its respite and/or options counseling programs.

The Information and Referral Specialist works as part of a team of three. The position is based in the Arlington office but offers an option for working from home up to three days per week following orientation.

The position has a starting salary of $38,151 or higher, based on qualifications.

The Information and Referral Specialist must have:

  • Ability to document all client activity timely and accurately

Required Experience

Bachelor's degree and at least three years' experience providing information and referral is required.

In addition, the following experience is preferred:

  • Experience working with older adults, persons with disabilities, and/or family caregivers
  • Working knowledge of Texas Medicaid and Medicaid Waivers
  • Working knowledge of services through the Veterans Administration
  • working knowledge of services through the Area Agencies on Aging
