The North Coast Athletic Conference, an NCAA Division III conference comprised of nine academically selective colleges and universities, along with four affiliate members, located in Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky, is accepting applications for the position of Director of Athletic Communications. The position is full-time, 12 months, and reports directly to the Executive Director. The Director of Athletic Communications will be based out of the conference office, which is in Westlake, Ohio. This position is supported by NCAA Strategic Initiative Grant Funds for Diversity and Inclusion.
Responsibilities
The Director of Athletic Communications will be involved in the conference’s day-to-day operations, including developing and implementing the league’s athletic communications and digital media plan and overseeing the conference’s sports information program as well as assisting with championships event management, and more. The person in this role will possess very strong creative technical skills (writing, photography, video, and graphic skills), and will have demonstrated the ability to communicate with a wide range of diverse audiences such as conference coaches, athletic administrators, faculty representatives, presidents, athletic communication directors, student-athletes and the public and the media. The director will also have other duties as assigned.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
- Oversee all aspects of media communications for all league sports including, but not limited to weekly releases, weekly awards, statistics, and post-season coverage.
- Respond to media requests as well as incoming inquiries from internal and external audiences.
- Design graphics for print and electronic use in promoting the NCAC and its members.
- Provide photography at championships and other conference events.
- Produce audio and video pieces for use in promoting the NCAC and its members.
- Oversight and maintenance of the conference website.
- Manage and continually build the conference’s social media presence.
- Ensure accuracy of information on all league platforms, with an emphasis on quality and relevance.
- Design and produce conference directory and record book, and individual sport guides.
- Maintain conference records and statistics in each sport.
- Assist the Assistant Executive Director with the conference’s annual awards program.
- Represent the conference at conference meetings, national events, media events, and conference and national championships. Serve as recorder for some NCAC administrative meetings.
- Assist the Assistant Director in coordinating the conference sportsmanship program.
- Assist with NCAC’s Female and Ethnic Minority Mentoring program.
- Perform other professional responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum three years of experience in a conference office, sports information or related field required.
The successful candidate will possess strong verbal, written and online communication skills, organizational and interpersonal skills, and must be able manage multiple responsibilities under pressure and with tight deadlines. NCAA Division III experience is preferred. Travel and some night and weekend work.
A working knowledge of the following is required:
- Microsoft Office products,
- Adobe Creative Suite, including, but not limited to: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro and After Effects,
- Statistical software (NCAA Live Stats, Presto stats, Statcrew, Golfstat, etc.),
- Athletic website content management software,
- Social media platforms including, but not limited to: Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, Twitter and Youtube.
