The Natural Wonder of Northern Arizona

North Country HealthCare (NCHC) is transforming healthcare for rural Arizonans. NCHC is a primary care, federally qualified health center with a teaching and learning mission. We practice an integrative care model in an innovative culture. These things allow us to provide coordinated health care across the Colorado plateau to some of the most vulnerable rural populations in the United States. We have clinics in 12 rural communities -- divided into an east, central, and western region -- throughout the northern half of Arizona. The DCMO position could be based in Flagstaff or in the region of oversight.

Through our care model, we are able to drive key quality and cost outcomes, which create value for patients, providers, and the overall health system. Our model allows us to practice medicine the way it should be practiced by fostering strong provider-patient, provider-provider, and provider-staff relationships, and delivering appropriate care in a "one-stop" model.

Duties of the DCMO are approximately divided to 60% administrative, 40% clinical. You will be able to continue as a practicing clinician in this role.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief Medical Officer by bringing together primary and multi-specialty care experts with ancillary medical services, including behavioral health, dental, and pharmacy under one roof. Help to maximize doctors and services in "one shop" to deliver coordinated and collaborative health care that enhances quality outcomes, efficiency, and the patient experience.
  • Value a positive and welcoming approach to patient care, particularly for underserved people in our geographic location.
  • Advocate wellness for patients along the health continuum, from intensive, preventive care to treating multiple, complex, chronic illnesses. Invest in our patients by implementing strategies that help prevent complications from chronic complex medical problems.
  • Take ownership of patient outcomes. Participate in leadership meetings to represent patients to the entire group to enhance accountability and collaboration, as well as foster ongoing innovation.
  • Help to hire, manage and mentor primary care providers as a clinical leader. Responsible for talent selection and development including but not limited to: participating in candidate interviews, 1:1s, leadership development, and performance management of direct-report providers.
  • Manage clinical teams to adhere to standard operating procedures on coding and other evidence-based medicine.
  • Cultivate a uniform clinical culture, clinical values, clinical approach, incentives and performance values for our providers.
  • Other duties as assigned and modified at CMO's discretion.

Benefits

  • Attractive total compensation package dependent on program incentives during first year of practice.
  • Work life balance through flexible and alternative work schedules with generous paid time off package and minimal weekend and holidays required.
  • Opportunities for the possibility of hybrid-based or telehealth appointments
  • Community health center benefits
    • With a HPSA score of 19 you may qualify for three loan repayment programs
    • Federal Tort and Tail End Coverage
    • Paid license DEA board certifications
    • CME funds and time-off packages
  • Benefit from patient centered medical home and various outreach services

Basic Qualifications:

A medical degree (MD, DO) is required with a specialty in IM, Urgent Care, Family Medicine, OB/GYN, or Pediatrics. Previous practice in a rural CHC, FQHC setting is preferred. A graduate degree or equivalent career experience in public health, health technology, or related quantitative field is preferred. Ideally, we would like to see a minimum of five years of clinical leadership responsibility at some level within a healthcare organization. That could be leadership in a department, as a clinic lead, a clinical standards committee, etc.
