NDDOT Starting Salary: $3,418 / month with up to a 5% increase after probation

The candidate selected for this position may be eligible for relocation assistance.

Summary of Work

  • Highway and Roadway Maintenance
    • Operate heavy equipment to perform required maintenance duties.
    • Perform highway maintenance duties.
    • Perform basic snow and ice control/removal on state road system, generally during daylight hours.
    • Assist in installing, repairing, and maintaining highway signs and rest areas.
    • Operate power tools and other equipment to complete sign work.
  • Building and Grounds Maintenance
    • Perform building and ground maintenance duties.
    • Maintain a safe working environment.
    • Maintenance of radio tower grounds and buildings.        
  • Information Technology Equipment Maintenance
    • Perform general routine maintenance of the roadway and radio system equipment.
  • Equipment and Vehicle Maintenance
    • Perform minor preventive and repair maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Record Keeping
    • Maintain necessary paperwork, including time records, activity reporting, daily diary, road reports, etc.
  • Highway Construction Project Duties
    • Receive training and perform construction project duties under close supervision.
  • Maintain a Safe Working Environment

This position is a safety-sensitive position. An employee, not already in a safety-sensitive position, who is selected for the position, but before being hired, will be required to satisfactorily complete a drug test. In addition, all employees applying for this position must sign the Drug Testing Release form (SFN 50098) and the district office will contact current and previous employers (within past three years).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Class B driver’s permit with air brakes with a cargo tanker endorsement by the first day of work. The employee will have 6 months to obtain a Class A driver’s license with air brakes and cargo-tanker endorsement.
  • Requires work after hours, on weekends, and holidays during emergency events. Will be at times required to report to work within 30 minutes during emergency or storm situations.
  • Previous experience in safely operating equipment such as tractors with attachments, farm trucks, etc. preferred.

Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and the required drug test, medical screening, reference check and driving records check.
