Food & Loding Unit - Public Health Bismarck, ND - Office Assistant

This is an ongoing temporary position.

Hiring Range: $17.00-$19.00 per hour

As an Office Assistant you will provide administrative support to the Food & Lodging Unit. The individual in this position is anticipated to work 15 to 20 hours a week. Duties include:

  • Performing office support duties including answering phone calls, forwarding information to appropriate Department employees, processing mail, and ordering office supplies.
  • Data entry and scanning of food and lodging license applications, renewal forms, and supporting documentation.
  • Processing and mailing food and lodging licenses and renewal letters.
  • Monitoring the Division’s general email address and responding to inquiries about licenses, inspections, and complaints.
  • General assistance with other office duties as directed or needed.

To thrive in this position, you must be able to work independently as well as in groups and have the ability to handle multiple detailed tasks. You must have excellent telephone and written communication skills and the proven ability to communicate well with internal and external partners. You must be able to maintain confidentiality. You must also be proficient in keyboarding, grammar, and spelling. You should also have experience and knowledge of the following:

  • Experience in state government.
  • Experience in a customer service field area.
  • Knowledge and skills in the use of word processing software, spreadsheets, e-mail, and the internet.

To be considered for this position, you are required to have a High School diploma (or GED) AND two years of experience performing a variety of administrative and office support duties

  • OR associates degree AND one year of experience performing a variety of administrative and office support duties. College-level course work in business administration, or a related field with course work reflecting the required abilities, may be substituted for the required work experience on a year-for-year basis.
