Description
The Senior Accountant supports the financial operations of NEKCA, wtih $12 million in revenue that consists of federal, state, and private funders. The Senior Accountant, is responsible for financial accounting, preparing financial reports, training others, updating policies and procedures, and preparing budgets. These duties involve the performance of a variety of financial and analytical review and quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with accounting principles, internal, federal and state regulation and policies along with grant financial requirements.

- Assist in developing initial grant budgets, produce financial reports and analyses and ensure full integration with accounting systems of the organization.
- Prepares and submits financial reports to all awarding agencies.
- Track outstanding grants for cash-flow forecast and analysis.
- Prepare journal entries for all grant accounting, including recognition of revenue and receivables as appropriate.
- Maintain schedules of all restricted grants and reconcile with records and general ledger on a monthly basis.
- Mentoring, training, and coaching Program Management, Staff and Accounts Payable within the Finance department.
- Develop and recommend financial controls and systems for new grants and programs as well as monitoring compliance with grant restrictions and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with OMB circulars applicable to nonprofit organization, such as the ""Super Circular"". Assist with the development and updating of allocation of indirect costs in accordance with methodology defined in applicable laws, rules and regulations.
- Assist with process improvement efforts in workflow, policies, procedures, and data system development to create efficiencies in department processes.
- Manage and execute financial activities through the execution of the grant lifecycle (pre-award review, grant process monitoring and award closure.)
- Attend and participate in staff, agency, and service provider meetings deemed necessary for job performance.
- Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll
- Prepare monthly journal entries for general ledger allocations, including building, supplies, IT, etc.
- Maintain fixed asset listing and prepare monthly journal entries.
- Prepares monthly financial reports.
- Records entries related to payroll, revenue and accounts receivable.
- Prepare journal entries for all grant accounting, including recognition of revenue and receivables as appropriate.
- Submit Medicaid billings and ensure data received is complete and timely.
- Ensure compliance with OMB circulars applicable to nonprofit organization, such as the "Super Circular". Assist with the development and updating of allocation of indirect costs in accordance with methodology defined in applicable laws, rules and regulations.
- Prepare allocation entries for space, technology, building and supplies costs to appropriate programs.
- Maintain allocation % and programs for each allocation type.
- Perform advanced level work requiring the analysis, interpretation and audit of fiscal and grant data.
- Conduct financial accounting, reporting and reconciliation.
- Analyze budget spending rates; forecast year-end expenditures and fulfill financial reporting requirements.
- Versatility to engage in other elements of the finance operation including financial and data analysis, reporting and planning.
Requirements
- Must comply with NEKCA policies if hired.
- Staff will be required to authorize and pass NEKCA’s criminal record check process
- BA (preferred), 1 – 2 years relevant experience required
- Submit Medicaid billings and ensure data received is complete and timely.
- Highly competent technology skills including MS Office - (Excel, Word);
- Demonstrated ability to take the initiative on defining and completing projects independently without direct supervision.
- Ability to work well under deadline pressures without sacrificing accuracy or customer service.
- Ability to handle a complex portfolio of work in a multi-tasking environment.
- Prior demonstrated skills to set priorities and to handle multiple assignments.
- Solution-focused and adept at overcoming barriers.
- Preferred skills include experience with accounting financial software and previous non-profit experience.
