Positions Supervised: School Nurses


200-day contract; Monday through Friday; normal working hours are 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. or 7:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M.


POSITION SUMMARY

The Nurse Supervisor assesses the needs of children related to health services and supports the District’s instructional program for students to achieve educational goals.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Appraises the health services needs of the school district.
  • Is responsible for the overall coordination, direction, and improvement of the health services program.
  • Encourages the staff to continue in their educational pursuits including and not limited to sitting for the National Certification of School Nurses Exam.
  • Provides stimulating, innovative, and educational in-service programs to the staff.
  • Keep a professional and open relationship with staff.
  • Keep the administration informed of the health needs and concerns of the district.
  • Maintains a positive relationship with individual schools, teachers, principals, and District level administrators.
  • Coordinates immunizations, physicals, scoliosis, hearing and vision, and BMI screening clinics.
  • Assures the school district’s continued compliance with the Arkansas law related to adequate immunization against Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Polio, Measles, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, and HIBS3 and the Communicable Disease Control Regulations.
  • Is responsible for the inventory, purchase, and repair of adequate health room supplies and equipment.
  • Supervise the members of the school nursing staff in relation to professional functions.
  • Teaches or co-teaches, organizes and schedules CPR and other necessary topics relating to health services.
  • Consults with the appropriate school personnel regarding student healthcare plans.
  • Serves on all committees that are deemed needed by the Director of Special Services.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services.

  • Current license as a registered professional nurse (RN).
  • Minimum of a B.S.N. degree.
  • Ten years of experience in nursing preferred; three to five years preferred in school nursing.

  • Shows evidence of a strong commitment to a integrated education program.
  • Currently holds a certification as a instructor in American Heart Association Standard First Aid and Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation.
