General Definition and Scope of Job
The Central Processing Department (CPD) Technician is responsible for decontaminating and sterilizing instruments, medical supplies, and equipment. They monitor biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination process. They verify that equipment functions properly, completes requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement and removes defective equipment when necessary. The CPD Tech collects, sorts, and distributes sets of instruments, trays, crash carts, and medical equipment and makes them available to hospital departments in a timely manner.
Job Status: Casual (8, 10 or 12 hour shifts)
Minimum Skills, Experience and Educational Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.

Previous experience in hospital central processing department or operating room.

Completion of an accredited Central Processing Technician program.

Maintains certification as a Certified Central Processing Technician.

Ability to multi-task and keep area organized.

Must be able to tolerate wearing protective gear (including, but not limited to, barrier gloves, moisture impervious gowns, protection eyewear and face shields).
