Job Description:

Director of Student Engagement and Leadership Development

Non-Unit Professional position, 37.5 hours/week

Campus Location: Lynn/Danvers campus, 5 days on site

SALARY: Anticipated salary range $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 plus fringe benefits. Actual salary is commensurate with experience and education. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Responsible for the planning, administration, supervision, and evaluation of co-curricular and curricular educationally purposeful student engagement programs and services. The Office of Student Engagement includes, and is not limited to: student clubs and organizations, external partnerships, civic learning and democratic engagement, co-curricular programming, student literary magazine, and student leadership development. The incumbent will develop and implement accessible programs and services, aligned with the mission of the College and designed to complement and enhance the academic experience. This office will also be steeped in the framework of providing an equitable educational experience for the diverse learners attending the College and ensuring students have a college experience centered by a holistic approach to student engagement and development.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for providing leadership for the College's educationally purposeful co-curricular programs and services.
  • Responsible for hiring, supervising, training, and evaluating professional and clerical staff and ensures effective daily operation of offices.
  • Responsible for the development and oversight of student leadership activities and a comprehensive student leadership development program.
  • Effectively collaborates with departments in the Division of Student & Academic Success, as well as other internal and external constituents.
  • Administers, and/or assists at a variety of institutional and/or special events including and not limited to the Student Services Awards ceremony, diversity initiatives (e.g., Black History Month, Women's History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, and National Coming Out Day), New Student Orientation and Commencement.
  • Ensures a student learning approach to civic and service programming that effectively meets the social, cultural, recreational, spiritual, and educational needs of the campus community.
  • Collects, analyzes, and reviews data in developing progress reports and evaluations for making data-guided decisions and recommendations regarding the various student engagement programs and services.
  • Ensures programs are effectively coordinated and managed to maximize student learning and development as outlined in CAS (Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education) standards.
  • Provides a balanced student engagement program that complements and supplements the mission of the College with a focus on student learning.
  • Provides fiscal oversight and management of several budgets, including clubs and organizations.
  • Ensures programming provides opportunities for growth in social and cultural awareness, leadership skills, personal development, and service to the College and the community.
  • Establishes annual and long-term targets, including staff development goals aligned with NASPA and ACPA professional competencies, and benchmarks incorporating promising practices with an emphasis on social justice and educational equity.
  • Serves as the advisor to certain clubs and organizations and ensures certain publications (e.g., club and organization bylaws and calendar of events) are up to date via all mediums.
  • Serves on College committees as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Dean of Academic and Student Development

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises professional and clerical staff as assigned



Requirements:

  • Master's Degree with at least five years related experience required, preferably in higher education.
  • Supervisory experience required; demonstrated competence in leadership training, group dynamics, and team building is strongly preferred.
  • Superior communication, interpersonal, multi-tasking, and leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with professional and ethical standards relating to student programming, including and not limited to contracts and relevant legal considerations.
  • Knowledge of, and practical application, of assessment is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with student conduct is preferred.
  • Experience working with commuter, minority, first-generation, and/or community college students is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience forging relationships with faculty is preferred
  • Successful experience interacting with culturally diverse populations.
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI background check as a condition of employment
