Reports to: Activities Director

FUNCTION: To assist the Activities Director in the coordination, development and implementation of a comprehensive activities program that meets the individual needs of the residents.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

The following specifications may differ depending upon the number of available employees among whom the performance of a particular job function can be distributed and the size and type of community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Freedom from illegal use of drugs.

  • Persons who have been found guilty by a court of law of or other regulatory agency abusing, neglecting, or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in the position.
  • Must pass State and Stellar background screen.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate degree in human service or recreation therapy preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Previous experience working in a health care or senior care setting a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively with small and large groups as leader or facilitator.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a sense of enthusiasm and purpose.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize tasks to assure positive outcomes.

Job Description

Certificates, Licenses, Registration: Valid state Driver’s License with good driving record and CDL as required by Community, Food Handlers Permit, CPR & First Aid
Certification.

Equipment Used: Working knowledge of personal computer and software applications used in job functions. Mechanical lifts on community van. Appliances such as popcorn machine, basic cooking elements may be used as well as other small hand operated equipment for various activities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to express self adequately in written and oral English and to communicate effectively in an interdisciplinary setting with residents, families, staff members, representatives of community and visitors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Basic knowledge of math functions – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Ability to develop, understand and track activities program budget and attendance.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding in order to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to analyze problems and develop workable solutions and goals. Must be able to implement written or oral programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the Activities Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • At the direction of the activities director, provides direct activities services to the residents of the facility. Direct service programming includes but is not limited to, group programs, one to one programs and providing support to residents that wish to engage in self-directed activities.
  • May be responsible for completing the activities assessment and appropriate sections of the resident care plan for assigned residents.
  • Ensures that all documentation required by state and federal regulations and Stellar corporate policy is written in a timely fashion.
  • May be asked to participate in interdisciplinary care plan meeting.
  • In conjunction with the Activities Director, helps to create opportunities for residents to interact with the community at large through the development of outside trips, volunteer programs and arts and entertainment programs.
  • Under the direction of the Act ivi t ies Di rector , assesses the effectiveness of activities department programming through daily attendance sheets and resident/family surveys.
  • Develops and provides one to one programming for residents who are unable or unwilling to participate in-group programs.
  • Ensures that all appropriate residents get to the activity.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to assist residents on and off bus, van or car, and may be required to move or arrange furniture for activities and/or climb stoop, bend, kneel, push and reach to carry out activities.
  • Sufficient mobility and strength to move freely through the building and to assist, while involved in activities or transportations.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision and peripheral vision.
