Job Description
This is a new position for a growing company serving the government sector resulting from years of business expansion and stellar successes. The position has the potential for growth into a Director level position. The position is responsible for the Company’s tax compliance for state and local gross receipts, business and occupational, business license, business privilege, merchant, commercial activity, radioactive waste, personal property, sales & use, and contractor’s tax. In addition, tax guidance and insight will be provided for M&A, state qualifications and withdrawals, newly created legal entities, new business opportunities and other topics as they become relevant. The position will also assist the parent company with federal, state and local income tax compliance, group tax provision, state/local PTE withholding, and possibly other tax types. The successful candidate will work with the parent company tax department, business units, service providers, and tax authorities in carrying out their responsibilities. They will work with financial management within the Company and third-party service providers. Individual responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for serving as point of contact for audits of state and local tax returns.
- Serve as contact point for parent company tax department and coordinate any tax issues with them when warranted.
- Coordinate accounting for income taxes with parent company during year-end tax provision process.
- Liaise with senior leadership and operating management on tax issues and accounting staff on tax accounting issues.
- Ensure that appropriate internal controls are in place over accounting for income taxes.
- Liaise with IT staff on all technical matters relating to tax applications.
- Work with contracting to determine taxes that can be billed through for government contract bids.
- Assist the Chief Financial Officer with tax planning issues as required.
- Assist the Chief Financial Officer in estimating and monitoring annual tax cash flow projections.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Masters Degree in Business Taxation preferred.
- Eight years of related experience with at least 3 years in a public accounting firm.
- CPA preferred.
- Experience with government contracting companies a plus.
- Experience with CostPoint a plus.
- Experience with automated tax systems a plus, especially tax research tools.
- Experience with ERP systems.
- Must have a demonstrated hands-on approach and success in working in a team-based environment.
- Must have great communication skills, especially the ability to translate complex tax concepts to and from common business language.
- Must have experience dealing with senior management effectively and efficiently.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
