POSITION PURPOSE: The purpose of the Task Qualified Technician/Security Guard (dual role) is to implement field procedures as qualified on a task-by-task basis with the intent to pursue full qualification as a Radiological Control Technician (RCT) and on a rotating schedule basis provide gate security support for our two remote federal project sites with a 7-day monitoring schedule.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
TQT Tasks:
The RadCon Manager and/or RadCon Supervisor will determine which individual tasks each TQT will be trained and qualified to perform. The TQT is an entry level position and will be trained and become qualified on individual tasks for the following duties and responsibilities (the following list is representative but not all inclusive of tasks a TQT may be expected to perform):
- Implement the day-to-day programmatic aspects of the Radiological Protection Plan;
- Perform air sampling, radiation surveys, and radioactive contamination control monitoring;
- Conduct personnel and equipment radiological surveys;
- Implement access control measures such as posting and labeling and completion and management of records, ensuring personnel are meeting the RWP requirements;
- Perform instrument source and function checks;
- Generate radiological data, records, and reports;
- Provide radiological job coverage;
- Calibrate and repair radiological instruments if assigned; and
- Coordinate dosimetry services if assigned.
- Conduct field inspections for damage after major storm events;
- Monitor field conditions for unusual environmental conditions; and
- Other environmental duties as assigned.
Security Tasks:
- Provide access control by checking for proper badge/ID at the entrance to the Moab and Crescent Junction sites to allow access to employees and site visitors;
- Provide point-of-contact assistance to train crew and provide notification to project management for issues;
- Transport train crew on rail siding at Crescent Junction;
- Conduct site inspections at both sites to ensure doors, gates, etc. are locked at the end of the day;
- Inspect Crescent Junction water pond to ensure correct operation and provide notification of issues; and
- Work closely with Facility Maintenance personnel on various issues associated with adverse weather conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and Experience:
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Successfully complete HAZWOPER training and obtain qualification within 180 days of hire.
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
- Current 40 Hour HAZWOPER qualification.
Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrate the ability to follow procedures, work packages, and/or protocols;
- Demonstrate the ability to use different levels of PPE (including respiratory protection);
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with field, project management, and client representatives;
- Ability to work independently on occasion without direct supervision;
- Ability to participate in physically demanding work while wearing PPE, including respiratory protection; and
- Medically qualified to wear a respirator, able to lift 30 lbs, and able to climb ladders.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must pass pre-employment background check.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, squat, climb and talk or hear. The employee is often required to use hands or fingers to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The work is conducted both indoors and outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to extreme outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is normally mild to moderate. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, machinery and vehicles. The employee will be expected to work weekdays, weekends and evening hours for some tasks on a rotating basis.
