What are the responsibilities and job description for the LTS School Psychologist position at Northampton Area School District?

Anticipated Long Term temporary School Psychologist position available as soon as possible, for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year.

TITLE: School Psychologist

CATEGORY: Administration

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Psychological Services

JOB SUMMARY: Performs psychological/educational assessments of referred students; provides counseling and other forms of assessment / services; provides assistance in evaluation of educational programs and progress of students through various testing programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possesses a valid PA certificate as a School Psychologist
  • Possesses at least one year of internship under the supervision of a credentialed school psychologist and experience in a school setting
  • Assures compliance with Employment Eligibility, Background Checks, Pre-Employment Drug Testing, and Physical Examination/TB Test
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the English language
  • Demonstrates knowledge of technology, including the use of software and computerized office equipment
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze situations accurately and adapt an effective course of action
  • Demonstrates ability to read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Possesses ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
  • Possesses a valid driver’s license
  • Possesses vehicle for daily commutes to district locations
KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Principles and practices of administration, supervision and training
  • School law, applicable sections of the State Education Code, other applicable laws
  • State and local curriculum requirements, board and organizational policies, procedures and regulations
  • Testing practices, procedures and methods, various testing materials, instruments and equipment
  • IEP preparation and implementation methods and procedures and record-keeping techniques

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
The position holder must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. It is the responsibility of the employee to inform the District of any and all reasonable accommodations that will be required.
  • Conducts evaluations and re-evaluations of student referred for or receiving Section 504 accommodations, gifted education, and special education
  • Assists in the development of comprehensive IEPs for special education students, as needed
  • Participates in IEP meetings as appropriate or when required by law; facilitates teams as necessary to accomplish proper results
  • Provides consultative support as a subject expert to teachers, administrators, parents and students for regular and special education programs regarding: classroom environment/school climate, child development and learning, family/peer relationships, special education procedures and guidelines, learning problems, styles and strategies, student behavior, promotion, retention and acceleration counseling, staff development, substance abuse, understanding cultures and mental health issues/interventions
  • Performs professional evaluations of psychological, social, emotional, behavioral and educational needs of students
  • Utilizes various testing techniques, materials, equipment and instruments
  • Prepares and maintains confidential records and files including word processing of all case files
  • Provides short-term counseling with referred students and families
  • Assists with expulsions, as referred
  • Maintains current knowledge of technological advances in the field
  • Provides school based counseling as a related service to special education students, as outlined in their individualized education plan (IEP), and regular education students, as necessary
  • Recommends alternative approaches or techniques to facilitate the attainment of goals and objectives for individual students, groups of students, classrooms and schools; performs consultation regarding special programs, opportunity programs, gifted programs and others as assigned
  • Assists administration in gaining access to services from outside agencies and community service providers
  • Conducts communications between staff and families
  • Performs crisis counseling, as necessary
  • Participates in the District’s School-wide Positive Behavior Support Initiative
  • Supports the District’s 3-Tier Intervention Model

SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Provides work direction and guidance to assigned personnel
  • Attends meetings, conferences and in-service activities, as necessary
  • Prepares and delivers oral presentations, as necessary

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Possesses ability to access, input and generate output of data from a computer
  • Possesses ability to understand directions and instructions in order to perform duties
  • Possesses ability to effectively communicate in order to exchange information
  • Possesses ability to monitor student behavior and read a variety of materials

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months: 260 Days per year; 11 months: 212 Days per year, additional workdays to be determined by Supervisor of Psychological Services; Compensation and benefits per the ACT 93 Agreement.
