AutoCAD Drafting/Designer - Contract Mechanical Designer/Drafter

Metal Fabricating Company looking for a drafting/designer person.

Proficient with AutoCAD – must have recent experience with sheet metal designs and fabrication activities. Will be responsible for creating and maintaining engineering drawings and designs from concept through fabrication & assembly. Will interface with engineering team & fabrication personnel on a daily basis

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing & modifying drawings per specifications and customer requirements. Prepare/maintain accurate catalog drawings

Experience in Auto CAD – 3D modeling a plus

Responsibilities for the Designer/Drafter

· Create shop drawings based on Customer designs

· Under general direction, prepare preliminary design proposals and design documentation of new product, redesigns or makes improvements to existing products, and preliminary drawings & engineering change notices using conventional and CAD techniques

· Prepare and revise drawings & prepares change orders, resolves shop problems

· Prepare drawings of detail parts, assemblies, bills of material & specifications from data furnished or developed from layouts, or ideas which conform to established standards & procedures

· Assure design features, dimensions, tolerances, & allowances conform to functional & manufacturing

· Check layouts, sketches, calculations & formal drawing documentation of those assigned for accuracy, completeness and standards

· Create 3D models from samples and/or from 2D drawings

· Create special manufacturing drawings for immediate production

· Adhere to customer volumes, timelines & expectations

· Prepare & modify catalog drawings from existing and new products

· Maintain accurate drawing books for plant production & quality control

· Prepare product assembly or shop drawings for existing / new products as needed and special drawings for plant projects

· Work from sketches, notes and other material to produce computer generated documents, drawings or assemblies

Skills & abilities

Must be able to read & interpret documents, drawings, catalogs, data sheets & vendor quotes. Must be able to calculate figures & amounts, proportions, percentages and volume as well as the ability to apply concepts of advanced algebra & geometry. Must be proficient with AutoCAD, DraftSight, MS Windows, MS Excel, Outlook. Should have strong interpersonal, verbal, written, facilitation and listening communication skills. Required to have strong project management and task management skills that include the ability to plan, prioritize, organize, gather facts, document procedures & processes & exercise sound judgment in decision making
