EDGER OPERATOR
LOCATION: Beautiful town of Lewisburg, found in the Susquehanna region of Pennsylvania. This is not a remote work position.

Northeast Softwoods is a unique rough lumber mill, supplying quality Eastern White Pine and Eastern Hemlock to builders and carpenters across Pennsylvania. We are looking for a quick-thinking person with a strong attention to detail to join our team as an Edger Operator. WHY THIS POSITION IS IMPORTANT TO US:
The process of turning logs into boards or beams requires many steps and people of different skill sets. The men and women fulfilling these roles are critical to ensuring we meet our production goals and that client orders are ready to ship on time.
WHAT IS THIS POSITION RESPONSIBLE FOR ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS?
The Edger Operator is one the first pieces of quality control and is responsible for running the Edger. The Edger is a piece of machinery that’s primary function is to produce boards with parallel sides and to remove the wane or rounded bark edges from the boards as they come off the head saw. The Edger Operator must be alert, capable of quickly assessing the boards before running them safely through the Edger and comfortable working outside all day, no matter the weather conditions.
QUALIFIED APPLICANTS REQUIRE:
-Good physical stamina and ability to stand for entire shift (with the exception of breaks).
-Strong desire to work outdoors and ability to work in all weather conditions with minimal amenities.
-Physical capability to complete strenuous tasks such as kneeling, bending, lifting and carrying heavy materials
-Ability to safely use hand and power tools
-Willingness to learn and become certified to operate forklifts and other heavy machinery
-Effective communication skills and safety mindset
HELPFUL SKILLS TO HAVE:
-Experience working in an outdoor facility
-Basic knowledge of mechanics
-Strong attention to detail and safety
DETAILED JOB RESPONSIBILITES:
-Operate the Edger safely
-Adherence to all mill safety guidelines, policies and procedures
-Ability to work independently
-Capable of working efficiently and safely while keeping a high level of precision.
-Assist in daily sawmill operations by working in various station on the production line
-Sorting and stacking hardwood products onto wood carts or stacks
-Straightens lumber on conveyor to align lumber for grading, sawing, edging, trimming, sorting, stacking, or for transfer to other conveyors
-Shovel bark and chips and cleans work area, using broom and shovel. Make sure work area is clean of banding and boards before leaving every day
-Learn to operate various machinery and complete preventative maintenance as scheduled on assigned equipment
-Follow proper steps to strap lumber and assist with loading trucks
-Safely operate heavy machinery such as forklifts and skid steerers
-Utilize hand and power tools to measure and accurately cut material to specified lengths
-Consistently lift and/or carry materials up to 50 pounds individually and over 50 pounds with assistance from machinery or additional team members. Climbing and crawling may be involved with housekeeping tasks
