Position Summary
The Junior Nurse Tech in clinical practice fulfills professional responsibilities regardless of the setting in which care is provided. The JNT functions under the supervision of the LPN Preceptor to assist in coordination of nursing care for the patients by participating in the assessment, nursing diagnosis, and patient care plans. The JNT works cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient care team personnel in maintaining standards for nursing practice in the clinical setting. The JNT is an interim position between graduation from an accredited practical nursing program and employment as a LPN. The JNT must take the licensing exam within 3 months of employment as a JNT. Should a JNT not successfully pass the licensing exam they may work as a nurse aide until passing the exam.
Position Accountabilities
Maintains established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Under the supervision of the LPN Preceptor, the JNT will contribute to the assessment of the patient’s health status and communicate pertinent information and reports changes to appropriate health care personnel.
Under the supervision of the LPN Preceptor, the JNT utilizes the nursing process to provide direct patient care from infancy through geriatrics, evaluates outcome, consults with providers, nursing personnel and other members of the multi-disciplinary team as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
Under the supervision of the LPN Preceptor, the JNT performs basic nursing procedures.
Under the supervision of the LPN Preceptor, the JNT maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
Under the supervision of the LPN Preceptor, the JNT assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.
Under the supervision of the LPN Preceptor, the JNT maintains patient’s medical records to ensure an accurate record of the patient’s medical treatment.
Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relations.
Demonstrates sensitivity to patient’s comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress.
Under the supervision of the LPN Preceptor, the JNT monitors emotional/ physical stability of patients and reports changes to the preceptor, charge nurse, or physician.
Under the supervision of the LPN Preceptor, the JNT is expected to engage in professional role activities appropriate to educational background and is accountable to self, patients, LPN Preceptor and peers for professional actions.
Follows policies and procedures regarding attendance and work hours.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
Under the supervision of the LPN Preceptor, the JNT provides health care instruction to patient and family members.
Under the supervision of the LPN Preceptor, the JNT assists with patient discharge planning.
Attends meetings as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
