Position Description:

Northeastern Junior College seeks an English Instructor whose teaching responsibilities will include a wide range of English courses, from developmental English through English Composition II and III. Teaching responsibilities will include but are not be limited to Technical Writing, Technical English & Communication, and all levels of English Composition. Some, and possibly all, courses may be delivered via distance learning as either an online or hybrid course. Some courses may be taught as concurrent enrollment for local high schools. Responsibilities will also include developing online curriculum. Applicants should be familiar with and comfortable using iPad and/or tablet technology. Duties also include those responsibilities generally expected of full-time faculty including curriculum development, advising Northeastern students, working with the English group on campus, participating on committees, and working cooperatively with other departments on campus.

Required Qualifications:

  • MA or MFA in English. If an applicant has a master's degree in a field other than English, 18 graduate credit hours in English are required for the applicant to be considered qualified.
  • Knowledge/experience with computer technology; especially MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), web conferencing, tablet and distance learning technology.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in a variety of settings.
  • Refined presentation and facilitation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior teaching experience.
  • Experience taking and/or teaching distance learning classes.
  • Experience in developing course content and organizing distance learning classes.
  • Qualifications and experience teaching Literature courses.
  • Supervisory experience

Contract specifics:

Position begins August 15, 2022. This is a 163-day full-time faculty position. Salary range $43,000-$53,450 commensurate with education and experience. Competitive fringe benefit package available through the SBCCOE.

All candidates will meet with the search committee and be required to prepare and deliver an actual classroom learning experience/lecture before the search committee and selected administrators. The teaching experience should be 30 minutes in length. A topic will be given to candidates at the time the interview is scheduled.

Northeastern Junior College, one of 13 member-colleges of the Community Colleges of Colorado, lies in the rural northeastern Colorado town of Sterling. The community of approximately 14,000 residents enjoys easy access to Denver, the Rocky Mountains and the western-agricultural lifestyle. Northeastern Junior College enrolls approximately 900 full-time and 1,400 part-time students through a wide variety of majors in associate degree and certificate programs. As a residential campus with six residence halls accommodating 600 students, the college attracts students from throughout Colorado, many states and several foreign countries. Approximately 50 full-time and 45 part-time faculty comprise the teaching staff.
