What are the responsibilities and job description for the Postdoctoral Researcher position at Northeastern University?
About the Opportunity We are seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to support research focused on mechanistic understanding and modeling of the effect of diet on the absorption of oral drugs, nutrients, and nutritive supplements. Our laboratory values diversity and expects all lab members to foster a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment. The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to: Design, implement, and analyze repeatable experiments for in vitro testing (in collaboration with the supervisor and other personnel). Experiments will include analysis of drug dissolution as well as lipid/protein digestion and drug absorption using cell culture models. Develop computational models in MATLAB or other programming languages Provide meticulous documentation, analysis, and summarization of results (including digital documentation and computational/modeling/analysis as needed) Foster a safe, collaborative environment Develop and write reports, publications, and grants Attend and participate in research meetings/seminars and journal club Participate in career development training workshops/sessions and networking opportunities for research and mentoring Guide and mentor graduate or undergraduate students, including participation in training to improve these skills as needed. It is expected that the postdoctoral associate will develop and execute a career development plan in coordination with the PI. About our lab: The overarching goal in our laboratory is to study interactions between materials and biological systems, with a current focus on the intestinal environment via development of theoretical and tissue-engineered cell culture models. Computational models predict how food and drug delivery systems can enhance absorption of a compound with specific physical and chemical properties. Systems-based models of the intestinal drug delivery environment are in the form of mass balances and kinetic equations describing drug release, dissolution, precipitation, and absorption. Mechanistic studies are conducted to enhance fundamental understanding of these processes. We work in a supportive team environment with trainees ranging from high school students to postdoctoral associates and research scientists. Qualifications: Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent; be able to undertake full-time research; work collaboratively with undergraduate, MS, and PhD students. All candidates should describe how they support a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment inside and outside the laboratory. This position requires excellent communication skills, both interpersonal and scientific, oral and written. Position Type Research Additional Information Northeastern University is an equal opportunity employer, seeking to recruit and support a broadly diverse community of faculty and staff. Northeastern values and celebrates diversity in all its forms and strives to foster an inclusive culture built on respect that affirms inter-group relations and builds cohesion.
