Position Summary:
A Medication Aide - (MA) is a dedicated and compassionate individual that is responsible for assisting licensed medical professionals in administering medication to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities at Northern Hills Training Center. This position requires a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to patient safety and well-being. The MA will be working under the supervision and delegation of NHTC's Registered Nurse (RN).
Essential Functions:
- Administer medication to patients under the delegation and supervision of a RN, ensuring compliance with established protocols and procedures.
- Medication Administration: Giving scheduled medications under direct supervision of a licensed nurse. This may include, oral, sublingual, eye, ear, nasal, rectal, topical, transdermal, vaginal, and inhalation administration. UMAs may also measure liquid medication or crush tablets for administration.
- Documenting medication administration according to agency policy and procedures. This may include documenting intake, reporting effectiveness of medications, and reporting allergic reactions and other adverse effects.
- Support individuals with disabilities in maintaining their health and well-being by assisting with routine health-related tasks such as blood pressure monitoring, weight monitoring, intake and output measurements, temperature checks, and other delegated healthcare tasks.
- Provide first aid and emergency care, as needed.
- MAs will adhere to all regulatory requirements, agency policies and procedures, best practices in medication administration and healthcare delivery with a strong focus on patient safety and quality of care.
- MAs will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, including the RN, LPN, DMS, MSAs, and other NHTC employees to provide comprehensive and coordinated care that is tailored to the unique needs of each individual.
- Other duties include activities of daily living, hygiene, toileting, self-exams, and other specified care needs.

Education: High School Graduate or GED
Computer Knowledge/Technology: Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and web-based documentation.
Other Requirements: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record to the satisfaction of NHTC's insurance company. Successfully complete all other required screenings and trainings within assigned time frames. Must be, or be willing to be CPR certified. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) medical gloves, masks, face shields, if needed/necessary.
Hours:
- Work 3 on/4 off one week, and work 4 on/3 off the other week.Day MA Hours: 12 hour shifts.
- Staff 1: Work Week 1 (48 hours): Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Work Week 2 (36 hours): Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
- Staff 2: Work Week 1 (36 hours): Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Work Week 2 (48 Hours): Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
- Night MA Hours: 12 hour shifts. Work 3 on/4 off one week, and work 4 on/3 off the other week.
- Staff 1: Work Week 1 (48 hours): Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Work Week 2 (36 hours): Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
- Staff 2: Work Week 1 (36 hours): Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Work Week 2 (48 Hours): Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Wage: $17.75 per hour and time and a half for working on Saturday and Sunday.
