The mission of the Tax Specialist role is to perform multiple tax related functions under the direction of the tax manager.

Expectations of the Role:

  • Assist the tax manager in the preparation and filing of all states monthly, quarterly and annual sales tax returns.
  • Review location purchases on a monthly or quarterly basis to ensure that the company has paid or accrued all tax on purchases made from our vendors.
  • Process sales tax corrections to customer accounts, enter sales tax exemption certificates into Vertex sales tax system. Research and respond to customer questions on sales tax billed on invoices or exempt laws.
  • Prepare and file annual personal property tax returns for multiple locations. Research all new corporate locations to determine if personal property tax is applicable and set up any new accounts needed.
  • Prepare and file annual business licenses for multiple company locations. Handle paperwork for any new company locations. Primary contact for requests of copies of any licenses needed.
  • Research and provide information for all states unclaimed property reporting to outside consultant for filing of annual unclaimed property reports. In conjunction with consulting firm; file and pay (as applicable) all returns for filing dates, request refund checks for customers, and remove credits from customer’s accounts. Maintain backup files for all reports.
  • Skills and Experience we like to see: *
  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance area and at least 3-4 years of experience in the Accounting or Tax field. More years of experience over education will be considered.
  • Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the Finance/Tax fields.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with exceptional Excel skills. SAP experience is helpful and the ability to learn multiple software programs is required.
  • Quick learner, confident, be a team player and positively contribute to the Finance Department.
  • Accurate, exceptional organizational skills and proven analytical and math skills.
