Role/ Department: Director, Digital Transformation/Audit Services The Audit Services Director, Digital Transformation leads an audit team that plays a strategic role in assessing the management of risk associated with business-critical digital transformation initiatives across Northern Trust. The role is a direct report to an Audit Services Managing Director and is responsible for establishing the risk-based audit plan, overseeing the audit team's planning and execution of audits, the performance management process, and recruiting and retention of staff for the audit team. The Audit Services Director, Digital Transformation will interact and build relationships with Senior Management in Northern Trust’s Business Units and Technology organization. The candidate will utilize their technical and audit expertise to provide input into and oversight of the execution of the annual audit plan, lead department initiatives, lead and guide staff, and act as a trusted advisor to internal and external stakeholders of Audit Services. Given the nature of the audits performed by the Digital Transformation team, the candidate will be provided with the opportunity to apply and expand their experience in evaluating the risks associated with data management and governance, as well as emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, big data, and cloud computing. The Director also collaborates with other Audit Services team leaders to provide support to those teams through integrated audits, fostering an environment which encourages participation, teamwork, and communication. The key responsibilities of the role include: Leadership and Management: • Demonstrate excellent communication, leadership, and management to influence a wide range of stakeholders with varying levels of technical understanding, including executive management, directors, business partners, regulators, and external auditors • Demonstrate strong initiative, program/project management and interpersonal skills, sound decision-making, intuitive thinking, political awareness, and sensitivity to cultural diversity • Provide leadership, guidance and coaching to staff, and foster an environment encouraging employee participation, teamwork, and communication • Oversee the professional development and performance management processes, including recruiting staff, developing talent, building an effective technical team, and resource optimization and alignment • Develop and deliver training on a wide range of relevant topics (e.g., agile, cloud, robotics) to targeted groups to improve technology savvy and audit execution • Leverage a strong peer and industry network to identify leading practices • Effectively represent and participate in various organizational and governance committees, task forces, etc. Operational: • Provide subject matter expertise in the technology space, including coverage of emerging technology, data analytics, artificial intelligence, robotics, and data management • Provide thought leadership to the department • Quickly change plans as needed to address emerging risks Help with development of presentations to management and directors, and present at senior / executive committees as required • Provide thoughtful and logical guidance to the business to mitigate key risks • Build, lead and drive the implementation of the digital strategy for Audit Services • Assist in driving the Audit Services Technology Program and ensuring the successful delivery of products/outcomes under the work streams on a timely basis • Evolve the department Audit Plan by identifying new coverage areas and challenging scoping of auditable entities / projects • Consult and partner with senior and executive management to understand the risks within the business, business changes, and/or other significant events • Issue clear, concise reporting and ensure timely communication of risks and issues to senior and executive management • Stay current on regulatory rules and changes within the industry • Communicate with regulators and external auditors Skills/ Qualifications: The successful candidate will benefit from having: • A college or university degree in Information Technology/Computer Information Systems or related field • Knowledge of, and experience in, developing and executing Centre of Internet Security (CIS) risk assessments that align to organizational strategies and business objectives • CISA Certification preferred • Seasoned auditing experience in the financial services industry or public accounting is preferred • Clear understanding of IT audit methodologies, techniques, risks, and challenges in IT and shared service environments • Superior awareness of cyber security trends and hacking techniques • Awareness of a variety of effective training techniques and delivery methods; prior training experience is a plus • Strong analytical, leadership, and organizational skills • Comprehensive business understanding and acumen • Excellent written and oral communication skills, approachable style, and well-developed negotiation and listening skills • Excellent networking and relationship management skills to optimize cooperation and results • Experience planning, leading, and championing strategic business transformations and change • Ability to influence and negotiate effectively, both internally and externally • Ability to explain highly technical standards and concepts in layman’s terms, to establish shared understanding and agreement • Ability to nimbly develop communications (e.g., Presentations) to assist the businesses and Boards • Adept at providing and defending counterpoints and independent, non-conforming perspectives • Ability to engage a variety of stakeholders (including senior management, security professionals, and regulators) in an audience-appropriate manner • Ability to adapt and react timely in a changing and dynamic work environment, under tight deadlines and with variable workloads • High personal credibility and gravitas to effectively negotiate, influence, and effect change • Comfortable working with ambiguity and diverse options • International cultural awareness ***Please note that this role may require the successful candidate to travel to other NT locations as required.
