Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a candidate to direct a team of engineers within a section of the Airborne Multifunction Sensors (AMS) functional homeroom.
The successful candidate will join our high performing, Systems Engineering team in developing Radar, EW, and EO/IR systems for some of the most advanced systems in the U.S. arsenal. These include radars and sensors for the F-22, EA-18G, SEWIP, Joint Strike Fighter, F-16, B-1B, AWACS, MESA, G/ATOR, UAV systems, and developmental programs
The selected candidate will clearly demonstrate strong management skills and will have a track record as a motivated leader, an effective communicator, and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. Demonstrated abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, are a must. They will have an ability to operate in a team environment and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish team and department goals.
This is a dual-role manager position, involving balancing both the overall Functional oversight and management of a Systems Engineering group of 10 - 15 engineers as well as performance of productive work on a program or several programs. The candidate will spend ~20% of their time on support of the organization and ~80% of their time on technical program work. The management side involves organizational administrative activities and helping their employees’ performance and career development through guidance and training. The direct program work may include systems engineering technical work, conducting design reviews, IPT leadership, consulting, proposal support, or any other appropriate technical function.

- Staffing, workload planning/forecasting and time charge approvals
- Engineering process development and maintenance
- Development and implementation of departmental vision and strategies
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or other closely related technical degree including computer science or physics, plus 9 years of experience (or Master of Science degree plus 7 years of experience) in systems or electrical engineering, and/or engineering program/project management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate diverse and inclusive teams in a significant leadership role.
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Solid understanding of the Systems Engineering process.
- Active Department of Defense (DOD) Secret clearance. US Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with the development of advanced sensor systems, such as EOIR payloads, Fighter and/or Surveillance radar systems, Electronic Warfare (EW), or Mission Systems.
- Advanced degree in engineering.
- Eligibility for Top Secret, SAP, and/or SCI access.
- 3 years of experience leading teams in a functional, programmatic or technical capacity.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
