Job Title: Laboratory Assistant II (Gross Surgical Department)
Location: Fayetteville, AR
Terms: Full-time, (initial 90 day probationary period)
Shift: Day-Shift, Monday through Friday
Reports To: Histology Supervisor, Pathology Assistant Lead, or Laboratory Administrator
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Enter data within the laboratory Information system (LIS).
2. Organize workflow efficiently when specimens arrive to fulfill daily deadlines.
3. Ensures specimen integrity by adhering to the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing.
4. Dispose of tissue specimens according to regulatory requirements for packaging and transport.
5. Collect tissue cassettes and organize them in holding racks at the request of the Histology supervisor or lead.
6. Start tissue processors according to loading schedules.
7. Maintain tissue processing and staining instruments by performing preventative maintenance and quality control procedures.
8. Complete required documentation for quality control and preventative maintenance.
9. Notify inventory manager when reagents fall below minimum level.
10. Demonstrate professional phone etiquette when answering phone calls.
11. Communicate issues to the supervisor or laboratory administrator for timely resolution.
12. Adhere to compliance, confidentiality, and safety policies and procedures.
13. Participate in general and job specific training sessions and annual competency assessment.
14. Perform other duties assigned by the management.

3. Demonstrate proper phone etiquette
4. Ability to discern alpha-numeric sequences
5. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with pathologists and clients to ensure patient care
6. Ability to work alone with minimal supervision
7. Ability to lift/push/pull 40 pounds
8. Requires handling of formaldehyde derivative reagent, ethanol based reagents, xylene, and cleaning agents.
Job Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED equivalency
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $14.00 - $22.50 per hour
