What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Support Specialist position at Northwest Family Services?
This position serves as an advocate to clients with mental health challenges and/or addictions by providing support, encouragement, and assistance.
Primary Responsibilities
· Meet with clients in-person and virtually often in non-traditional settings.
· Work with Qualified Health Care Providers or Drug and Alcohol Counselors in order to support their cases.
· Refer clients to appropriate services and resources.
· Consistently follow up with clients.
· Maintain accurate documentation in accordance to Oregon Administrative Rules.
· Represent and promote the program to community members and other agencies.
· Co-facilitate skill building groups as needed.
· Demonstrate healthy and appropriate life skills and boundaries to clients and their families.
Education / Experience
· Bilingual and bi-cultural English and Spanish. Must be able to speak, read, and write fluently in English and Spanish.
· A high school diploma or equivalent.
· Be a Certified Peer Support Specialist or successfully complete the training within one year of taking on the position.
· Prefer someone who self-identifies as recovering from substance abuse addiction or who is or who has received mental health services.
· Understand and have experience with trauma informed work and recovery principles.
· Understand and have experience with youth and adults who have been affected by adverse childhood experiences.
