Northwest Mississippi Community College seeks a full-time 10-month instructor for the Aviation Maintenance Technology program at the Olive Branch Center to provide modern instruction, a professional environment, and a solid reputation in our communities for quality instruction and highly qualified and desired graduates for employment.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements:  The individual must have a minimum of five (5) years of successful experience within the last ten years in aviation maintenance to include: maintenance, inspection, alterations and repairs to powerplants, and airframe on heavy and/or light category aircraft.  Associate of Applied Science in Aviation Maintenance Technology or directly related field required.   Must be certified by the F.A.A. as a mechanic with airframe and powerplant ratings.

Preferred Qualities: 

Previous teaching and/or training experience in aviation maintenance preferred.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

Duties and responsibilities (not limited to):

  1. Continually ensure that all requirements of all partners are met.
  2. Maintain compliance with all FAA requirements.
  3. Maintain a professional demeanor with all students, coworkers, and community members.
  4. Provide excellent classroom and lab instruction in modern aviation maintenance through positive and inspiring learning experiences for all students using a variety of teaching methods and making every learning situation relevant to career preparation.
  5. Prepare detailed lesson plans, job sheets, and laboratory demonstrations for all units of instruction. 
  6. Recommend changes in the curriculum to maintain a current program. 
  7. Monitor the progress for each student in the program to include those in internship programs. 
  8. Work as a teammate with other instructors and support staff.
  9. Update and continually improve your own teaching techniques and aviation maintenance technology skills. 
  10. Adhere to compliance regulations for all professional licensing qualifications to include FAA. 
  11. Teach the depth and scope of the class materials as outlined in the syllabus and catalog and relate the instructions to careers and employer expectations. 
  12. Prepare and grade examinations based upon course objectives, publish lesson schedule, and return all assignments in a timely manner. 
  13. Implement evaluation for outcomes assessment and achieve established results while maintaining college standards of student satisfaction. 
  14. Work creatively in all classes, encourage students, and maintain satisfactory retention. 
  15. Begin and end each class at the designated times, providing a full period of instruction. 
  16. Accurately maintain attendance records in accordance with the Attendance Policy, submit class roster daily, maintain a separate record of attendance and grades that is clearly labeled and turned in at the end of the term. 
  17. Accurately maintain all reports required by NWCC, Mississippi Community College Board, FAA, and other partners.
  18. Attend faculty meetings, in-service meetings, and other college events as required by the College. 
  19. Participate with Aviation Maintenance Technology classes in extracurricular activities, such as campus and community events.
  20. Supervise all laboratory experience. 
  21. Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment. 
  22. Maintain proper inventory of all equipment and tools assigned to the program. 
  23. Maintain an active advisory committee which meets twice a year, minimally. 
  24. Visit industry to develop and maintain a good rapport with employers and to monitor students participating in internships.
  25. Take an active role in the advisement and counseling of students.
  26. Assist students to find employment in an occupation related to training.
  27. Serve on various faculty committees.
  28. Participate in all required training and development activities.
  29. Contribute to the overall mission of the College by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Associate VP for Workforce Solutions and Career Tech Education.
